⌛ Internet access from home

Can any one tell me if and how internet can be accessed from the home?

I have a older home in Magnao I plan on renovating in February. With the complete new electrical system, I can add a bit of modern technology. Who is the best provider? Does it requier a dedicated line? Who is a good point of contact? I am open to hire a knowlegable individual...if the price is right.

globe (95%)

bayontel seems to have improved alot over the last 2 months, but prior to that there were long outage periods

as far as i know all other companies sell rebranded versions off these services.
one of the cable tv company's has started to market a service. i have no idea about the internet service but their tv service is on 99.9% of the time

in a previous location, 2 of the providers sales offices told us that they were available but were not. to verify availability ask your immediate neighbours what they have or get the installation engineers tel no from the company and ask him directly (in some instances some part of the same street are inaccessible to the same network)


prepare for a installation wait of at least 2 weeks, but realistically something will go wrong, so expect a month to avoid disappointment

note the service depends on the hardware/cabling to your area, which varies in reliability

Im in Mangnao on noreco road I use globelines broadband instilation is free I believe it 1299p a month including the land line. Ive rarely had problems and they were rectified within an hour. here in Mangnao is your place I can ask if they provide service there

If you only need occaisional service and you have a phone line and modem there is still dial up. I would buy access cards from the local stores which sell them just like phone cards. This is great for short term use or to have something until you get the broadband connected.

 

Pedro: how much would these dial up cards cost, and do they still include free dial up during the evening and night time?

 

I don't think Bayantel is available in Mangnao. That leaves Globe DSL (supposedly in the middle of an upgrade that was supposed to have been complete 6 weeks ago), Sky Cable Internet, Smart Bro wireless, and Quest (formerly IT Outlook--which is also supposed to be upgraded soon).

Sky Cable caps their upload at 80kbps, so forget using VoIP for phone calls; Smart Bro is 384/384kbps and has been pretty reliable and close to those numbers in my experience; Globe has alot of outages but faster speeds are avialable (sometimes)--the variation in actual speeds is very large...sometimes you may get 80% of the maximum burstable speed promised in your package, but sometimes you may only get 10%. Quest/IT Outlook is hoping to get a much better backbone in the next month...I look forward to that working out! I think they will offer 1mbps symmetrical and maybe higher at that time.

 

I was using the MOZCOM Nitro 100p cards for 10 hour access and because most of my use was after 12pm made one card last nearly the whole month. Most cards come in 100p/300p/500p with varying hours of use and most of them offer free use between midnight and 7:00am or 1:00 to 7:00am. Depends on what cards are available at which shop. Whatever card is available should still be better than going to an internet cafe unless high badwidth is a requirement for what you intend to do on the net.

I am planning on bring ing my laptop to Dumaguete.Doe that MOZCOM NITRO work in laptops.

 

Larry as long as it has a built in modem and a phone cord is available they will. They are mearly cards which have codes and phone numbers you will use to configure your modem to get the actual access from the ISP.
