    Imagine the surprise of Cebu Pacific's check-in staff at DGT airport ast Friday as it was busy handling the morning departure for Manila when two passengers arrived; baggage, confirmed reservation and paid E-ticket in hand, to board a non-existent direct flight (5j 868) for Cebu.

    Apparently they (we) were never contacted and advised that the flight had not operated since its intended inauguration on 12 January and was indefinitely suspended.

    To the credit of the airline's staff and its station manager, those passengers (us) were accepted and indeed booked to Cebu, albeit with an en route stop in Manila. We arrived in Cebu at about the same time as we could have arrived there via our alternate choice: bus and boat, Sibulan crowds notwithstanding.

    We were able to complete our intended business in Cebu before the end of the day as originally intended.

    We have extended our thanks to the airline and to the staff members involved. Their intervention was timely, professional and effective.

    On a sadder note, we note that this flight is still present in Cebu Pacific's computer and available for erroneous booking on future dates.

    I still believe that there is a definite and unsatisfied requirement for direct air service from Dumaguete to Cebu. I will be an early and frequent patron - if they ever get it sorted out!

    Hello there..you can always travel by ferry and by bus en route Sibulan, which is the nearest..it is only a 15-20 minute ride from Dumaguete by bus and you would only be paying 7.00 pesos..you get off for Sibulan wharf and take the pump boats which takes 30 minutes to cross the seas or the fast craft which only takes 15 minutes at around 65.00 pesos or 70.00 pesos i think..once you get across, you get off Lilo-an at the Northern part of Cebu and either take the v-hire for 150.00 pesos or 170.00..you may also choose to ride the bus at a lesser rate or by the PUJs which would be roughly around 15.00 pesos to 20.00 pesos regular fare..within about an hour and a half at most, you will be in Cebu..

    You also have another option traveling through Tampi in Amlan which is around 30-45 minutes travel by bus north of Dumaguete at around 15.00 pesos to 20.00 pesos..you get off at either Tampi wharf or Maayo shipping lines, whichever is available..i think they also have a fast craft at Tampi but the most available means of transportation would be the barge which has daily trips Tampi-Bato and back..i'm not sure how much the fare costs now but it was around 65.00 pesos back 2007..once you get across..you can either take the v-hire for around 200.00 pesos or more, drop-off point at Citilink or the Ceres bus for around 160.00 pesos or more, drop-off point at South Bus Terminal..at either terminals you can choose to ride a taxi or the PUJs into the heart of Cebu City..

    Either way, you will arrive in Cebu in half a day or so..Hope i was able to offer some helpful tips..Enjoy your trip!..=D

    Iv'e never been on a bus from Liloan aircon or reg that took me to Cebu south terminal in less than 3.5 hours and about an hour less by v-hire all in all dgte to Cebu by bus about 5 hours Thats why I prefer the night ferry or the non-existing flight from Cebu pacific

    A few things, such as;

    "once you get across, you get off Lilo-an at the Northern part of Cebu"

    Although there is a Liloan in the northern part of Cebu, it would be hard to reach it by pumpboat from Sibulan.

    "or by the PUJs which would be roughly around 15.00 pesos to 20.00 pesos regular fare."

    Although one could get to Cebu by hopping Jeepneys, it would take apporoximately 10 or 15 of them to get there. Jeepneys along this route seldom go more than 30 km. And yes, at P15 or P20 EACH. Count on at least a full day to make the trip in this manner.

    "within about an hour and a half at most, you will be in Cebu.."

    WOW. that must be some Jeepney!
    Considering this is a distance of 140 km, that makes an average speed of 93.3 KPH. Although I have no doubts some of the Ceres hit that speed at times, to average that on this route would be an incredulous feat with any type vehicle other than an airplane or helicopter.

    There is another thread on this forum for anyone interested in traveling this route. Since the new fast boat was added last year, we regularly make the trip from Dumaguete to Cebu in 4 hours at a total cost of around P250 each.

    The thread is located here, and has some good info;

    Happy trails!

    well..

    You really took some time to go through my post Larry..Thanks.. Obviously, you haven't traveled that route..5 hour travels go by Bato..So I made a mistake by saying, "within about an hour and a half at most, you will be in Cebu.."..i meant when you go by van..

    And Larry, if you have some information you think would be helpful, you can just freely post it here without having to pick on someone else..this forum was started and was meant to be helpful for those who inquire earnestly and for those who want to help in earnest..it was not meant to p*ss somebody else for your own satisfaction.

    Happy Reading!

    Kylie, I AM posting information that is helpful, in correcting your bad and misleading information. There is NO public transportation land vehicle that is going to make it from Bato OR Liloan to Cebu "within an hour and a half at most". Within 2 and a half hours yes, if the traffic is light, but an hour and a half no, sorry, there is no way.

    A vehicle would have to travel 180+ KPH wherever it could to average 93 KPH to Cebu. There simply is no way a bus, van, or jeepney is going to do that, sorry.

    Larry
