City Hall, or up at the capitol bldg whatever it is? I've got some interesting internet type businesses in mind. Nothing requiring big $$ for initial investment so..

    :D

Any chance my wife could register the business in her maiden name-legally? I suppose if she just gave them ID from before we were married she could get away with it, but who knows they might let her do it that way anyway..

City Hall if you're planning to set up shop in Dumaguete, or at the municipal hall at whatever town you are in. As for registering your business in your wife's maiden name, I guess you have to ask first before you let her apply for a business license. Better safe than sorry....:-)

The sites have everything to do with Dgte. Other than needing 1-2 workers at the most, I probably could just do it w/o registering, as the sites will be hosted thru Yahoo and the domains also in the US. But I'll be wanting to advertise the business and/or what it has to offer in town of course, so I guess that'll warrant signing up at city hall. Thanks anyway. :D

Not ever needing an office etc in town lessens the chance of the subject of who the owners are coming up "officially" like with landords etc. So starting off as a single owner shouldn't really be a factor.

One married Filipina friend with a business told us today she listed her sari2 store as single owner w/o worrying about the legal end of it even tho she was married. It's probably commonly done. If nothing else my wife's brother could apply.

We're told now thru the end of the month is a very busy time for that at city hall with the renewal deadline being the end of the month for current businesses. So we'll wait until March I guess.

Lacking any employees at the moment, and being primarily internet there shouldn't be too many hoops to jump thru as I wind my way thru the paperwork..

    - maybe

Right now, there is a one-stop shop that the Dumaguete City government has set up, at the side of City Hall. There are representatives from the different agencies like DTI, BIR, Fire Department, City Engineer's, ENRO, Health, etc. etc...I know because right now I'm processing the renewal of my business permit. The deadline for the one-stop shop has been extended to Feb. 15. After that, be prepared to do the rounds of all these offices/agencies. It's a pain in the butt, not quite fun, and so tedious. Good luck!

that would be nice if it would be a one-stop shop... you still need to run around and fall in line like you said...

so at least you need 2 or 3 days/weeks/month for that "one-stop" hope and you pay/get your

    barangay clearance
    sign-board fee
    sanitary permit
    Tax clearance
    sidula community-tax
    Mayor permit fee
Pest control fee (they did not check my underwear... hehe:p )
    Occupation tax
    Garbage FEE
City engineer clearance (with inspection if you borough a fire extinguisher of a friend)
    BIR Form 0605
    ENRO signature
DTI Stamp (with a new business you can listen to a breath taking seminar where you learn it is illegal to mix different sorts of rice and each third word is penalty)
SSS Stamp (or apply for it)
    Blue Book (for simplyfied bookkeeping)

hey it's like a walk in the park....
.... if you can send somebody else:p

    Rhoody

ps: but make sure you invite that person you send to a nice Valentines dinner at Jollibee

Thanks for the exciting view into the future..! Our friend says she hires a 'bookkeeper' for about P1000 to take care of all of it. Seeing the list of hurdles I may face, it'd be well worth the $20 or so to let someone else plod through it all ..

Again, lacking a building etc I could probably skip half of the checkpoints, but when the time comes we'll farm it out.

    Great feedback!

I think both city hall and also a local permit at the barangay office.
Some buisnesses is not possible for non filippinos to go in to I think.. I read something about "forbidden list A and B" Married you can go in as 40% owner and the wife 60% in many cases. Simple non technical/military can be ok to invest/startup. I Am not sure how to understand this "Foreign Investments Act of 1991" and how it aplies on non filippinos investments in the philippines if living there with a spouse or GF. Just did a quick check but will try to get in to it better. Will be in the Philippines from May and will try to get some buisness going from a few ideas me and my wife have. So hopefully We can tell about our difficulties and learning curve as we go.

Well that list was short ..Less than 20 things to get before starting up your buisness. Well Im from sweden.. in here it's actually a lot worse..Especially if you hire someone. So all the permits sounds like a drag and I am sure they will take it's time to get. But still it's not totally easy here in the west either.
