H i , I m from Tennesse , in the Cumberland Plateua area . I am in Biz with Mother Nature 's landcare . We work with soils in fields and forests with biologicals and our own compost . We hopw to be making local sustainable bio - fuel asap .

I have ben invited to live in the Phillipines . And so i am wondering how I can find a ship , yacht , sailboat to get from the US to the Phillipines ?

I don ;t think we were mant to fly . The huge radiation field damages our DNA , so any help to find a boat for this year would be awesome !

    thanks , gary b

    Hi Gary:

You definitely have a challenge ahead of you. With perseverance anything is possible. I do not know what familiarity you already might have with freighter travel. Forgive me for assuming that you have none. A good place to start is with this Wikipedia article:

    Freighter travel - Wikitravel

After you digest that one, try working your way through the hits which this Google search generated:

    freighter travel - Google Search

A further complication will be that you will likely not find anything like a direct routing to the Philippines. This will depend mostly on your port of embarkation in North America. The major Philippine seaport involved in international trade is Manila but you might have to accept an intermediate stop at another point such as Singapore before your arrival here. Choose your intermediate point with care as visa considerations and the cost of an extended stay may impose themselves.

Once you do get here, you will be delighted with the possibilities of sea travel in the Philippine archipelago. The choices are often very simple. Boat or plane covers the majority of connections between islands. With travel by ferry you trade time for cost but the results can be very rewarding.

For instance, I can travel by ship from Dumaguete to Manila by scheduled ferry in an air conditioned private stateroom with meals included for the same price as an air ticket. I love it! My wife enjoys our frequent honeymoons.

Good luck! Please let us know what you find.

HI! Yes, it can be done. Magellan did it years back by boat. Douglas Mc-Arthur did it too. With modern technology, I do not see why a seacraft designed to reach the ends of the world cannot be manufactured today. When that happens, you will surely be the first one to come to Dumaguete by boat.

no he wouldn't, I was diving in November with a guy in Apo who makes a "round the world trip" with his "small" yacht. at the moment he is somwhere around India.

Anyway, there are plenty of containerships crossing the ocean and you can get a ride if you assist the crew for free. You wouldn't be the first either
