Not for people asking this question in the first post...

Dumaguete is totally dangerous... streetgangs wanna kill you as soon you step out of the hotel. All locals rip you off and you get AIDS when showing your passport....

Just stay in your safe country and dont waste my server space...

Hello eiruj as my self i feel safe in Dumaguete and i think also other Foreigners to.You should know that many Foreigners live in Dumaguete coze the Place gives us all and we are like a Family.Think you wouldent finde a City like Dumaguete where Foreigners live more like happy then unhappy.Othervise i cant explane howcome so many Expacts live in Dumaguete.Your Question seams to be a bit funny, like im asking you (is the Place where you live safe enough?)Sure the answer will not be easy.By the way, they call it(Dumaguete, the City of gentle People) Maybe Roody can give you more better informations as he knows anything there in Dumaguete City:smile:

Most of the Philippines is safe for foreigners, but however its like any where else in the world, you have your crooks, robbers and con men, plus con women. There is a little war going on near the Muslim area's it seemingly frightens people off a little.

The residence of Dumaguete City are called the gentle people and Negro's it self seems much safer than other Islands. The point is that you must choose where you live with some common sense. It best to have a high fence and bars on the windows and good secure locks.

As you can see by this forum there are many ex-pats here already and are mostly okay about the safe factor.

So leave the bullet proof vests at home, no need for the sub machine gun or anti-terrorist sprays, lol Dumaguete city has got a lot to offer and the money you spend here will levitate a bit of the poverty.

    Welcome to the forum..

As a just par for the course the only worry you really have in the Philippines is petty theft. It is far more dangerous in America than in the Philippines. I live in Mindanao as a fact and it has always been a safe place to be never a worry about serious danger other than my cell phone being stolen or being over charged for something I want to buy. But really spend some time looking around before you settle in one place. There are many wonderful places to live in the Philippines. Everyone has their favorite place. Just PM me if you need more help..

Rhoody: Ich mag wirklich Ihren Pfosten lesen, den sie immer lustig sind.

    to see is to believe

hello..guy's ! i was been in dumaguete (9/01/09) as a stop over before going to other side, negros occidental. The only picture that stick onto my memories of dumaguete was the beautiful blue sea in the boulevard , drinking in the garahe , and no one in this forum mention, that the local drink in one glass that going around. My boyfriend did , but i didn't believed him.
Even in your own home you don't feel safe the reason of all those fences and gated houses. Rhoody will defend dumaguete his life , because that is his home. So everyone else that call dumaguete their home. Foreigners is stand out because they symbol dollars, you're being charged extra or double. foreigners is being envied by the locals, because your life is so easy, you start your day, in the boulevard with that cold bottle of beer . I myself did injoy that time infront of wyh not.
So any one looking for the places to live ? you're welcome anywhere in the world , just remember , knock on the door and ask if you are welcome. Knocking is the sign of respect.

When it comes to dumaguete , Rhoody is the door man

my first post, hello dumaguete! but I am wondering why the question asked by the first guy is bad? It was the first post I went to becuase I have the same questions. not all of us are seasoned expats. so thanks to those who offered a nice introduction to the dumaguete area. I hope to visit there soon. cold beer in the philippines is a good reason to visit in itself!!. I think cold here means luke warm most of the time.

    lots of good info here!
