I have no Idea what you guys and girls try to compare, but comparing a development country with the rulers of the world who are basically broke but still try to explain the rest how to make things right... where everybody needs 2 jobs to afford a 10 day holiday a year, where over 50% of the population cant find the last 3 countries where they had war against on a map , where there is basically no social system existing... you must be joking....

but that country country brought us free WIFI in MC Donalds and bottomless coffee untill 11am, isn't that worth a life in a tent...

The different between the americans and the filipinos:

some americans that are in a displace situation now are not used of being poor.

we filipinos are already poor all our lives and so used to it, that anything that comes our way is always accepted and still grateful for the cardboard over our head.
Filipinos are naturally happy people. Thanks ! for the texting revolution we are more happy now that in an instant we can say hello to our love one.
To any foriegners in the philippines , you indeed find the place that you can love and hate And hate to love. :D
To those guys at the boulevard, you all indeed lucky. To injoy your life to the fullest in a country some believe poor and know nothing. We have so many dialects , that even in our own country we can hardly sometimes understand each other. Thats what make us filipinos smart and different.:D

    Here is one for you.

People in the Philippines can actually live in a bamboo house with no insulation and get by. Try doing that where I came from and you will freeze to death.

By the way, this is not the new America. This sort of thing is not widespread.

So what you are telling me is that the intention of the original post is to show sympathy and solidarity for some out of luck poor American living in tents? This is what will become of most Americans? And this is the New America?

Not to worry (or….don’t start celebrating yet—for those you who hopes this is the case….)

The Americans are much more resilient than most (outside of US) gave credit for. Just look back in history and realize some of the major crisis they’ve been through….a revolution, civil war, two world wars, the great depression, and seventies energy crisis just to name a few…..And guess what? As much as many around the world hate to admit, the Americans emerged from each crisis stronger and more prosperous. Have no doubt that any financial institute or businesses that survive the current crisis will certainly evolved to become bigger, stronger and more profitable, this is evolution at its very best & I certainly don’t see why this one should be any different. Historically, the by product of surviving a crisis is that people will become more adaptable, smarter and better.

Philippines is still the same…..and maybe getting worse. One can have all joy in the world but it’s not going to change this fact.

And the point I wanted to make from the first post was that-----The severity of poverty (and injustices & corruption) that the general population experience in Philippines cannot be compared to what’s going on in US right now & …..seriously, there a lot more critical things going on domestically in the Philippines which should be the focus of Filipinos not on some poor Americans 7000 miles away who are temporarily down on their luck & decided to save their rent money by moving into a tent.

Philippine corruption to worsen — UNDP
    01.27.2009
    By Veronica Uy
    Inquirer.net

MANILA, Philippines — The global financial crisis and the 2010 elections are likely to worsen corruption in the country, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) country director Renaud Meyer said at an international conference here Tuesday.
"These are challenging times for all of us in our fight against corruption especially in the next two years. For one, we are in the midst of an impending international economic crisis, which is affecting both developed and developing economies. Second, 2010 is
election period in the Philippines," Meyer said at the First Integrity and Human Rights Conference.
"We foresee that these economic and political scenarios happening in the next two years will likely increase incidences of corruption to mitigate impacts of the economic crisis and to get enough funding or political support in the upcoming elections," he said.
Meyer and Alistair MacDonald, European Union ambassador to the Philippines, both pointed to links between corruption and human rights.
Meyer said corruption "is a primary obstacle in the effective delivery of public services and fulfillment of basic rights."
"Corruption ... can be especially brutal to the poor, who have no resources to compete with those willing to pay bribes,” he added. “Corruption denies the poor their fair share, and reinforces the gender and social gaps, because corrupt payments are made in exchange for breaking rules of fairness in employment, justice, and procurement."
MacDonald said: "Freedom from the disastrous effects of corruption is as much a human right as is the freedom from fear or the freedom from hunger — and indeed corruption helps to promote hunger, and fear, and is a direct assault on human rights more generally."
MacDonald, Meyer and several other participants in the forum called on governments to punish corruption.
"Corruption must be recognized as a risk, a threat, and a crime,” MacDonald said. “The
State must have the will to address this risk, face the threat, and punish the crime. [And] the legislation must be implemented — and implemented without excessive and dispiriting delays."
Meyer said criminality and social unrest would escalate if the corrupt went unpunished.
