    Hi Henry,
Welcome to DumagueteInfo. There are quite some threads about both topics on the board already.
Without scaring a new member away, just a question, Has your son done something that bad that you want to throw him into the local education system, coming from the US ?

On the other Hand... I wish my daddy would have done that with me when I was 14... Rhoody with as a long nose teenager with 14 in a local college... that's unlimited paradise !!! ... who cares about the level of education... hehe

That's a great education! Unfortunately I think I would get spoiled here.

Henry welcome to the forum. In order to understand your situation better we really need to know more about you and your family. Is your wife a Philippino, have you ever lived or even visited the PI, do you have any family here? As for your son Siliman is an American sponsored private school, elementry to college. But do not mistake that it is a US equivalent school. To get your boy up to speed you are going to need to get him a tutor. He will need to learn some Tagalog that is a requirement of all the shools and if you have not been teaching him at home he has a big hill to climb. Another consideration is will you be sending him back to the states for college? If so you will have to have his high School transcripts "translated" and evaluated before he can re-enter the US college system. Perhaps the only advantage you will have here is that the school is affordable I would think but I could be wrong. Just remember that although English is one of the three languages most Philippinos learn, you are still comming to a foreign country with foreign customs.

true education comes from home and outside the school. The schools, only gives the basic and provide certificates of completion. The rest, is all up to our own resourcefullness. Good luck and injoy life in Philippines. Keep us here in DI- inform, will you ?

by the way, i seldom welcome new memeber in DI, i only read duma-info when i want to relax have a laugh , and most of the time i miss home.

    Hello and welcome Henry!

I would suggest you look into online resources to supplement your son's educational experience. This is particularly important if he will return to the States for college. There is only one International Baccalaureate accredited high school in the Visayas and Mindanao and that is Cebu International School in Cebu City. Local programs which are based on Philippine national standards only go through grade 10 and would not be considered high school graduates in the US. If your son only attended one of those schools and graduated, he would then have to either take the GED or return to high school in the US before he would be admitted to a quality American university (and many universities will not accept a GED diploma!). However, you can enroll him in online programs that are recognized in the US (and other countries depending on the program) and he will receive a diploma from that online institution which could be used for admission to a Western university.
