    Hello, everyone --

We are going to check out the hotels listed here on Forum but wondered about any personal recommendations for one or another?

Thank you, as always, for any assistance!

Hotel Palwa is a nice place, near the city centre and only 3 blocks from the Boulevard. The Boulevard is a concrete seaside walkway which sets Dumaguete apart from other similar sized towns. We paid 1000php for a family room. A double is probably cheaper. Very good value for money.

I've also responded to your posts on the Cebu site. Some people prefer the buzz, nightlife and shopping of Cebu. Others prefer the quieter life in Dumaguete.

My wife and I are definite partisans of the Bethel Guest house, having been married there. It's centrally located downtown on Rizal Boulevard. Many of the rooms have a view of the sun rising over the sea.

Several posters here have whined about Bethel's no alcohol & no tobacco policies. We find them refreshing.

Current rates are about 2K / room / night.

Thank you so much! Yes, we're looking at both locations at this point. We actually looked at Hotel Palwa but were curious about the "tariff" charges that we saw? Is that applied to the base room rate upon checkout (like a tax?)? Just need to know for budget purposes -- thank you!!!

Hi, Hotel Palwa is my personal favorite when visiting DGT. A double is about $18. usd a night. The staff is super friendly and the rooms are basic but very clean. They use yahoo messenger at the desk so you can make and verify reservations and changes easily. For this price you get free breakfast for 2 and free wi-fi, so you can bring your laptop and catch up on things with your morning cup o' joe. The only possible drawback is that it is 3 or 4 blocks from the ocean. But when it is sunny and 90 degrees a walk is not a bad thing. If you are looking for a romantic beach type visit to DGT you need to go a little bit outside the city. These places will be call resorts in the common lingo. You can find many to choose from and they are only a taxi ride away from the nightlife of the city. Santa Monica Beach Resort has a website. Sta Monica Beach Resort Oriental Negros Philippines

    Hotels in Dumaguete

I fully concur with all positive comments about Hotel Palwa. I stayed there three separate times during my almost two months in the Philippines; November 20th, 2008 to January 14th, 2009. Matrimonial room for two was total cost of 950 PhP per night and breakfast is included. This is a GOOD breakfast with numerous options. The staff is superb BY ANY STANDARD and much better than 4 other hotels we stayed at in Cebu, Bohol, and Leyte, including a 3-star in Cebu. Their cozy restaurant offers very good food at very reasonable prices. It takes all of 4-5 minutes to walk to the boulevard, Lee Plaza, or other main areas of interest. If you're lazy, take a trike for 15 pesos! I know there are other nice hotels in Dumaguete but it is Hotel Palwa for me; great value and service.

Another option if Palwa is "like always" full would be Obdulias Business inn. It opened a few weeks ago and falls in the price range of Palwa.

    Obdulias Business Inn

If you are lucky, you could be one of the first guests of Hotel Nicanor
Hotel Nicanor is somehow from the same family as Palwa and the stuff undergoes training there at the moment.

Another good thing is that you can chat with them on Yahoo and clear the details. I was just chatting with the front-desk-angels at Palwa, they and their Manager Adam are very happy about your comments.
    cheers

    Terrific information, Rhoody; thank you!

(I love that these hotels chat on Yahoo -- very smart, and such a timesaver)

    Reservations Made at Hotel Palwa!

Rick is all set with a two-night reservation at Hotel Palwa for Saturday, April 11th, and Sunday, April 12th. He'll be arriving that morning from Manila.

Thanks to everyone for the guidance and suggestions provided for his stay.

    ~ Sue
