Okay, while diving in the Bahamas, I saw and took a picture of this strange white sea creature. I have looked and asked around, but nobody can tell me what it is. Anybody have any ideas?

My guess is that we are not looking at the actual specie or animal but a cocoon of some type. There is a lot of new specie of animals being identified lately, especially sea creatures. Global warming they think has something to do with this sudden explosion of new species.
I suggest you send this picture to the US fish and wildlife services U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Home they might be able to help you. Let us know what happens. Interesting picture. Thanks for sharing.

Those are a common sight in the waters of North America. They are more abundant around vacation areas such as the Bahamas. The latin name is trojanus ribbii. It is in fact a cocoon which is shed immediately after mating. Often found in the same area are emtpy clear or brown shells, either 345 or 750 ml in size.

It looks scary to me. It looks like a blood-sucking creature. I wouldn't go near it.

This trojanus ribii, do they come in different colors. I could swear I've seen them in red, some even glow in the dark.

    Sucking....eh, maybe..Blood Sucking, I doubt it.
