    Hi, everyone --

Rick will need to purchase an inexpensive phone when he arrives this week. He will most likely purchase it when he arrives in Manila. We have a few questions:

We both prefer a full, QWERTY keyboard-style phone... Is there one you'd all suggest over another? About how much should he expect to pay for the phone, and additional peso load (500 should be a good start for the load, correct?)?

Would it be better to purchase in Manila versus right at the airport? I would assume so, but just thought I'd ask.

Thanks, as always, for your replies!! He's leaving for NYC tomorrow!!

    ~ Sue

The Nokia e61 is a good and cheap qwerty type phone. Try to purchase it at the Nokia store in major malls to get the full one year warranty. You might have to shell out less than Php15,000 for this. I saw one store here in Dumaguete selling it for around Php13,000

What makes anyone think a phone for 15K is cheap? You are getting into the price range of a satellite phone at that price range.

Perhaps something a bit more modest would suffice.

as the previous poser said "china" nokia it's totally different, they have an in built self destruct device that goes off just when you really need a phone.

i can't help wondering though if it's safe for ppl that need help buying a phone, to travel too far from home lol.

i bought a phone in the UK before i came, it was a gr8 phone until my ex-girlfriend stole it!!

but i actually bought it from a good store where the sales person knew something about it, and could give a d*mn, as opposed to here..... where the shop assistant....... oh never mind you'll find out.

it was cheaper in the UK also!
