No one has yet to clue me in on the ice availability. That's right its a third world country. I would be lucky to be able to steal the stove, pots', fire, and refrigeration equipment to produce this product.

nothings too expensive here, especially your expectations on first arriving, the more time you spend here, the more aware you get, so be careful, try and haggle the lowest price, even if it appears very cheap, generally, in my experience anyhow, things here seem to breakdown quicker, so keep all your receipts safe!!

I'm joining this thread a little late, I realize - sorry. My curiousity is piqued with the idea of home brewing in this climate. I have done so off and on in the North American temperate zone for over fifty years with great success. I started as a child during a beer strike in Ontario.

I even brewed beer in Havana, Cuba. I had been skeptical about the possibilities but it worked! The average temperature both there and here is well onto the high side for beer brewing.

While I have not seriously shopped for ingredients, I visit grocery stores regularly and haven't seen any hops or brewers yeast. Even regular yeast for bread making seems to be non existent except for Yan Yan. Where do you get your supplies?

Are there any of you who have actually made your own beer here in Dumaguete? Cleanliness is essential to quality control. What success have you had? What were your experiences and challenges? Your problems? Your failures? I can just imagine vast quantities of malt vinegar - or worse. Je! Je! Je!
