This is a message which I sent on Saturday to my internet friends in Canada and elsewhere. I thought That I would share it with the Dumaguete Forum membership as well.

There IS a cloud within the silver lining of my present life. It's the preparation and consumption of small dried fish - apparently a favourite of many Filipinos. Now don't get me wrong. I like fish. Two days ago, Rieanne prepared an absolutely magnificent meal of slices of Blue Marlin. Yesterday, Anne and I attended a local restaurant which I discovered when out on my bike - for Fish 'n Chips. Ever had that meal prepared with Yellowfin Tuna? Delightful!!

But these little critters? They are driving me crazy! I'm writing this on my new "netbook" machine. I'm seated in Anne's jungle, within the range of my Wi-Fi signal but safely away from that of the malodorous marine beasts.

It's morning. A delightful Saturday to be exact. Anne and Rianne have been to the market and are now in the "dirty kitchen" re-blackening Anne's hair. Argie is caring for Den Den in his pigpen. Joan slumbers on. John John is . . . .

Oh sh*t! John John, the bathroom queen, is now in his presence chamber. A Filipino five minutes, which routinely stretches by my accurate measurement to thirty. I've even been given my first morning coffee and now I desperately need to pee! A perfect time for the tiny fish to attack, right?

RIGHT! And so it is. Desolate, the damned flies have now found my ankles.

    There IS trouble in paradise.
