He was riding an XLR 200 when he was riddled by automatic weapon fire, 14 shots by two guys on motorcycle.

Wow. Was that 4:30 AM or PM? That probably created a bit of excitement for the tourists walking the boulevard.

I wonder what the cost breakdown might look like on that...

    500 for the hit
500 premium for a hit on the police
    28 for the bullets (14 x 2)
    30 for gas
200 for automatic weapon rental from "Hitmen Supplies and Internet Cafe"

What's remarkable to me is that it was two people. I would think it would be more like 10 guys.

    5 drivers
1 guy loading the ammo into the clip
1 guy with a whistle stopping traffic
    2 guys texting
    1 guy shooting

and then they miss anyways

I wouldn't call it coordination. Maybe semi-organized chaos.

Even the topic is not really funny, but for unknown reason it reminds me on an article I read 4 days ago, released by:Agence France-Presse

NINETY per cent of Philippine police cannot shoot straight or clean their guns properly, according to recent firearms proficiency tests, an official said.

"Of the country's 125,000 policemen and women 90 per cent cannot shoot straight and have difficulty just taking care of their guns," National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) Commissioner Luis Mario General said.

Commissioner General, whose agency monitors the national police, said that of the remaining 10 per cent most of them ranked barely above the level of "novice". He said his commission would recommend to the Philippine National Police that it conducts regular marksmanship training for all its members, including the top brass.

"We will recommend to the police that they take this matter very seriously because their policemen could either be killed in the field or could shoot innocent civilians," said Commissioner General.

However, he said he could not blame the police for their failing marksmanship grades, because of the high cost of marksmanship training and especially bullets.

He also cited recent admissions by top police officials that almost 50 per cent of the national police actually have no service firearms.

so if they aim at you, just walk away in a straight line, so your chance to get away is 90%..

... and if you need them to follow someone, make sure you have the 5 Peso for the whistler...

    if not ... :

Yes, this is a terrible event. My regards to the family of the person who was killed. I wonder how many expats whom may have witnessed the event (or were within earshot) are booking tickets home. I don't know if this happened in the AM or PM but I was way too close to Bethel at both times today.

However, someone shot the gate of our apartment complex two weeks after I arrived (I heard the shot at night) and that wasn't enough to scare me away. Judging from the size of the hole, I think it was a bazooka.

There have been several shootings with the same MO in recent months in and around Duma? Seems like I read something about them in the Chronicle.
    rebels? druggists? postal employees?
