⌛ How do you get to Tanjay from Cebu City?

Our flight takes us from Hong Kong directly to Cebu City. My uncle says we can travel from Cebu City to Tanjay by land instead of ferry. Ten years ago, when we went we took a Supercat instead of driving.

How long is the drive? Are there any interesting sights along the way so I can take pictures?

 

It's impossible to go entirely by land from Cebu City, because Tanjay is on another island, Negros Island, and 30km north of Dumaguete. If you drive from Cebu City to the barges that will ferry your car across to Tampi, it's about 150km to get to Bato. Then a little north to Tanjay.

 

Just to clarify Bandit's above post: I believe he means that you drive (or take a Ceres Liner) from Cebu City down to Bato on Cebu...then load onto a ferry that will take you across to the Port of Tampi, on Negros...once at Tampi ( you will already be some 20 km north of Duma...) just go out to the main highway and turn right....Tanjay will be another 17 km north.....a half hour drive after going through Amlan. Be aware the Polo bridge is underconstruction and you MIGHT find a long line of big trucks parked on the side of the road....you can PROBABLY pass the trucks, as they are waiting for a signal from the PNA to use a detour road, and proceed on to a much shorter line of small vehicles waiting to cross the bridge. This area will be controlled by the PNA with walkie-talkies....so watch out for any different instructions from a military person. Also, a small portion of the hiway is under constrction...the drive is easy and not long, but not very senic...unless you want a pic of a huge concrete, tiled roof house sitting in the middle of no where, surrounded by fish ponds! LOL!!

 

For fear of suggesting the impossible - what about going the long way around?

Drive or take the bus from Cebu to Toledo. A frequent car ferry service connects Toledo to San Carlos. Continue driving or take another bus south again to Tanjay. At least you will miss the Polo bridge backup.

I've done the Toledo ferry and road south and took a lot of pictures. If nothing else - it will be a different experience.
