What is the rumour I've been hearing about the "GIANT DUST CLOUD" that starts out somewhere along the blvd, travels along the highway and extends as far out as Coyotes and beyond? I've been told that the highway has been completely torn up with no way to tell as to "if" and "when" it will been completed. I'll be coming home to Duma next Month,so I guess this is just one of the things I have to look forward to,the other one of course being a cold SNB or an Ice cold Gold Eagle {Yes,gold eagle,My beer of choice}. It looks like I'll be investing in some dust masks at the local hardware store before I come there.I'm sure They will come in handy when I make My trips to town and the marketplace via the highway.Let Me know if anyone needs any... Maybe one of the members can take a picture of the ongoing destruction {I mean construction} so I can get an Idea of what's in store for Me,and as to reduce the initial shock value. By the way, does this have anything to do with the Mayor thinking He can gain votes for the next election by repairing the highway?,or does this have something to do with Him not wanting to get re-elected since the highways are all torn up with no end in sight? I'm sure that My Friends who'll be visiting Me from Camiguin will get a lovely first impression of Dumaguete once They see the Highway.Maybe I'll just blindfold Them, plug Their noses, tell Them to hold Their breath and everything will be just fine.... Anyways, on a fine note,I am Looking forward to the Ice Cold Beer..

The Mayor is on his last term and cannot run for re-election again. The roads are a mess, but if you look at the ones already done you can see they are wider and probably will not flood. In my book it's worth the inconveniance and the wait. The money for the construction is in the budget that must be used or the province will lose the funding or have cuts if it is not used. Its taking a toll on business like my resort and other places as it does create a lot of mud ,dust, traffic delays etc. But then again when it's done it will be worthwile especially when more traffic will come when and if Robinsons opens

I agree the roads when finished are great but why is it necessary to start so many projects at the same time? Why start tearing up the road in front of the National Book Store when the road in front of the Ceres Bus Terminal has been under destruction/construction for months? Isn't it more effective to channel all your resources into one project, finish it, then go on to the next? The National Highway road construction by Robinson's will be a nightmare for travelers for a long time since there is no concentration of machinery and man power on that one project. Lots of hustle and bustle but nothing getting done. How may road projects are going on at the same time? Latest one is the Boulevard.

Don't worry. Once they finish the roads there will still be plenty of smoke from burning and exhaust fumes from big trucks and trikes to keep out that fresh air. If it's noise pollution you want, Lee Plaza is still good for that.

    Ha!
You think Dumaguete is bad? Try driving into the city from out northwest, where I live - some 24.5 km out in the province! (Amlan).
The main (only) highway (????) is again being torn up between Sibulan and San Jose...about 8 km worth. Blew out the right front tire the other day...what fun. Turn on the a/c and drag in all the dust.......but it IS cooler! LOL!Then we arrive in town and find all that you guys are going through....geez.
No one should be complaining about the logic - or lack thereof- in the way things are done here....after all, we are in d Fils! Roll with it.
Oh- for the guy who's coming back soon: Yes!! Please bring me a case of masks; I'll make a fortune...... If I don't use them all myself, that is....
BTW, I think Dgte has been named by the Tourism Board as one of the five cities they are going to concentrate on for tourism promotion this year...maybe that might explain this 2 year on going fiasco of road building.
    Just a dumb thought...

What you heard is an understatement. Its not Dumaguete but the whole province.

My opinion is that the National government had release funds for infrastructure projects for the province as well as for Dumaguete, along time ago. The Province and City administrators slept over these projects, for what reason? I don't Know. Hence Since the GMA gov't is about to end its term, It gives all Local governments until June to implement this projects or else the National Gov't will take back the funds they released. Thats why this infratructure projects came out at the same time. Its only my opinion, no evidence to support it. Just hearsay. He he he.:D
