    Beef

Hypermart has the most American food products in the area, but not meat products. The best meatmarket is the one across from City Hardware.
Most people agree that you can't beat their meat.

You will find it quite a challenge to find a wide range of USian food products in Dumaguete. It takes some searching and a bit of experience to be successful. I spent a long time searching until I was able to find dill pickles.

You will find substitutes for some of your favourites, again with effort. I now have dill plants purchased from a market in the north end of the city.

Home baking solves many problems. Most ingredients are available at Yan Yan.

I keep a list of "Must Haves" and satisfy most of it during frequent trips to Cebu. The Ayala supermarket there has a wide variety of items - most of them greatly overpriced!

Lee Superplaza and Hypermart are outstanding disappointments. A case study waiting to be made in bad management. The projected opening of Robinsons will provide another possibility but I won't hold my breathe.

For meat - think Australia. For groceries many USian items are actually Canadian in origin. Look for the French language labels.

Q: What is the difference between meat and fish?

A: If you beat your fish it will die.

Speaking of hard-to-find items...does anyone know where to locate real, unsweetened lime juice? Like 'ReaLime'?

I was out on my bicycle the other day on a buying trip to City Hardware. If there was a meat market across the road - there isn't anymore.

I was swallowed too far deep in the crater which used to be a road to read the small note taped to the window. Have they moved someplace else?
