Thanks Rhoody, I'm writings things down so I will remember. I have no problem of leaving the rat race of America forever. My wife wants me to build a small 3 story little apartment 2 bedrooms each level on her property so we will have extra income. There big house is on San Jose street near the elementry school. Are anyone familar with that street not too far from Siliman?

Tell your wife not to worry about her National Pride when it comes to buying items here in the Philippines ... Buy items in countries where you can get it cheaper if possible.

Hardly anything is actually manufactured here in the PI ... Just about all appliances, clothes, furnature, electronics, etc that you buy here in the PI comes from China anyway! Other than bamboo furnature, they just don't make many consumer items here.

Now, if your wife is Chinese, that's a different manner.

Angeles or Cebu-City is very far if you only want to sneak out for a while.

Couple of hours or couple of days, what is possible for you ?

It's always a good excuse to look appliances, cars or computer parts in Cebu Manila or AC to "sneak out" a few days...

Add to your list rechargeable batteries and charger. (Batteries suck over here.) There are some available that will accept 110 & 220.

Not much in the way of girlie bars in Dumaguete...this isn't Angeles by any stretch of the imagination!

Much like buying a car, I wouldn't suggest jumping into building apartments either. My casual observation is their is an over-supply in the market here. And once you see the prices you will realize it will not result in much of an income boost.

    KIA on Real street

No one has mentioned there is a KIA dealer and service center in Dumaguete yet. I know you may be looking for something bigger but I have become impressed with KIA's quality and it may be worth checking out.

Sneak out? You will be on asawa's turf bro, good luck to you.

Thanks guys, and I will check out the KIA dealership when I finally make that move. KIA has improved their quality over the years. As for my asawa I have to be extra extra careful. She has 3 masters degrees and is very selosa/jealous. Angeles city is a real wild place. I heard that Cebu cost more.

I'm currently leasing a Kia Rondo down here. Sold as the Kia Carens AUV in the Philippines. Drives great...no problems...no rattles or squeaks...and I've thrashed it a bit on country roads. The brand is growing on me...

If you're buying a toyota the best dealer close to Dumaguete is in Mandaue, Cebu City. Takes about 5hrs from Duma including the car ferry across to Cebu island. Plenty of good bars in Cebu City where you can get a polish while they are polishing your car. My favourite is the Lone Star.
