To all you DI readers who hang on the boulevard with your young Filipina teenyboppers and rant about how wonderful Dumaguete is while Filipino bashing to each other, I have few suggestions…..
First and foremost, try to get your hands into your pockets and pull your heads out of your butts. Travel a little; take a look at Dapitan, Legaspi City, San Carlos or Bayawan. Compare them with your horrible over crowded, filthy, congested sewage hole Dumaguete. Few cities in the Philippines of similar size have so many polluting 2 stroke tricycles, traffic chaos, clogged up sidewalks, ridiculous one way street systems, beggars, vendors chasing the longnoses and such high crime rates.
The great land mark Lee Plaza; crowd-clogged entrance, one must endure the din of an idiot blowing a horn at a deafening decibel rate while trying to fight through the crowd to the door. Upon struggling through the masses to an exit one is set upon by street kids, woman with babies begging, keeping up with your every step as you try to fight your way through tangled multitudes blocking the sidewalks. Do me a favor guys, is this the Dumaguete you go on about?
Think I need a Philippine travel education? Well, I reside in the country and have traveled it extensively the past 20 years. With the exception of perhaps Masbate City, Illigan and Osamiz, the dung-hole of Dumaguete would win out as by far worst place to live compared to other similar sized cities. For God’s sake, get out there and look around; stop fooling yourselves.
It’s totally beyond me how you fat expats can continually try to convince yourselves you’re living in paradise when in fact all your doing is surviving in hell with your Filipina teenyboppers. Try having a meal on the boulevard see how long you last before street kids, Viagra peddling vendors (guess you guys or your teenage girlfriends encourage them) beggars and/or peanut kids accost you at every mouthful of food……That’s paradise???? With 4000 registered tricycles and God knows how many that are not turning Perdices St into a smoking stinking noise-filled hell on earth…. Come on get real, stop kidding yourselves. Dumaguete has degenerated over the years to the dysfunctional septic tank it has become today.

    Hi Cyclops.

interesting insight from a man of your very well stated vast experience.

any tips on how to avoid the misery of having to endure the whining and complaining, that u so eloquently parody in your magnificent soliloquy "i never had a fun day in my life".

Cyclop even with one eye. u are as wise as a person with 4 eyes. more wisdom please

yours humbly awaiting teachings from the master.

edit (sorry i found the solution, if u are going to whine about crowds, hawkers or pedicabs on forums - don't go to crowded places.)

By the way, I find it interesting that you don't mention in your post nor your profile where in the Philippines you reside. If you have found paradise, why not fill us in?!

While we agree with some of your comments and can see there is room for improvement, I dont know how anyone can compare San Carlos City to Dumaguete!!
