Question for all of the Dumaguete residents.

What would you say is the Best and Worst areas to live in the Dumaguete area. Dumaguete proper and /or from Dauin to Sibulan. Be specific (reasons why and why not) if you have the time to write.

    Thanks

I don't have any especially strong feelings on this, but, in general I find Valencia a peaceful town/area which is close to the city and one can get to and from the city without a lot of traffic. Property prices tend to be higher here than in any of the other surrounding municipalities. You also have more concreted roads and street lights and, of course the rebate on your monthly electric bill.

One needs to muddle through more traffic going North or South on the National highway to the other towns. I guess it depends on where/when you plan to spend your time and how tolerant you are of traffic. Sibulan has the advantage of proximity to the airport and fast ferry to Cebu, as well as Bravo Golf Course, if those things are important to you. Bacong and Dauin probably have generally lower property prices and proximity to dive spots...biggest negative for me is the distance from the city.

Best place to live, outside of Dumaguete.

If you are planning on living here just get a temp furnished apartment and look around after you get here. Hard to give you info to plan on in an forum post. Check out Valencia when you get here, it's a really nice little town.

if you have a wheels.. Valencia is the best place to stay because its far from the busy city. Cold like Baguio city especially August to February. Rebate to your electric bill and still so abundant of tress..Most of all so close to Forest camp and Casaroro falls.
But if you want to be in Dumaguete City everyday go to Sibulan.. They have many subdivision you can choose and still many lot for sale and most of all no worries when it come to rides if you prefer to commute even you are a night crawler person.
But over all best place to stay is outside Dumaguete City.

Thanks for you replies. I should of mentioned we have been to Dumaguete several times (1 week stays each time) and have driving up and down the national highway more than a few times ,sightseeing and visiting friends in Dauin. After traveling around to most of the PI islands over the past 6 years of vacations and living near angeles city for 5 years (20 years ago) the wife and I really like the Duma area and decided on starting out there. Renting a house for at least a year of course. I did like the Sibulan area. Did they finish the road construction near the airport on the way to? I did not know about the fast ferry near Sibulan. Is that to Cebu or Santander.

Moving to Duma in Sept ( after a few weeks in Cebu).

I thought Valencia was ok, but to compare it with Baguio is a real stretch. I expected that Valencia was a fair bit out of town and much higher than it really is. However, consider it a suburb of Dumaguete - so you don't get disappointed....five minutes away by trike...It is a little higher up and I'd say a degree or two cooler, at most, from the seaside during the day. Maybe more of a difference at night I suspect. We did a couple recon trips to Valencia to have a look around, our last trip to Negros. To be honest it was pretty ordinary....no Baguio......not even a La Carlota....

Obviously, you did not see much of Valencia. 5 minutes by trike? Must be some trike. Is it a turbo prop model like the jeepneys on Cebu?

Or did you mean you took some recon trips to Talay?
