I don't know how much time you've actually spent in the US (NY, LA, SL, or Europe).... I grew up in the US & have traveled through both US and Europe extensively, sure I've ran into my share of inconsiderate a**holes in both places but in all honesty there's no where near the frequencies of a**holes one would encounter while in the Philippines.

I rarely have problems with anyone in the Philippines. Just lucky I guess....the odd cab driver trying to rip us off....pretty much sums it up. The driving is another issue and I only drive around Bacolod if I pinch a relative's car. But it is no worse than just about every third world country I've been to. Try the Middle East for a**hole drivers.....make Filipinos look like saints.

Americans too. Never had a problem with rudeness. Lived there for a few years, mostly Hawaii and California, and go to the U.S. as often as I can. Very polite and helpful in general. Down here in the cities we have more than our share of inconsiderate drongos....manners have really plunged in the last twenty years. Country towns are a different world though. Great people.....Probably the same story in much of the world.

It's going on all over the World..more cars to clog the freeways? and roads. Nothing worse than stop start to your destination.
But,sorry to say,it will get worse as more vehicles get on the roads.

Yep, Panday - sure have to agree with you and Rhoody both about that.
My asawa has said she feels it's because the Filipino who has more money always wants to "brag off" (her phrase, not mine! lol) so that other locals will know they have more dough....same with playing the blastingly loud radio...they want everyone around them to know they have super woofers, tweeters, speakers...whatever and therefore are "better" than the ones who don't have such things.
I thank God we live out in the "boonies" and don't seem to have any class struggles around here - heck, we are all broke (including this foreigner) in my sitio! ROTFLOL

Most of the REALLY wealthy Filipinos that we've known over the years keep a low profile and act very well towards others. There's no point for them to act like a**holes - and in fact, much to lose. Some of them are very generous in their support of the community. I know one in particular who has given more to the poor than this entire forum combined. I'm absolutely sure of it...

They deal with the endemic corruption like everyone else....and wish it wasn't the case. It costs them money too...

It's the wannabe's that are the issue with acting up.

With Due Respect to your Opinion.....

Let me try to explain to you how we might have differed in our, “A**holes” experience by sighting a couple of example.

In 1997 I was assigned to a 3 months project in St. Louis. One three day long weekend I decided to travel to Chicago for some R&R. I stopped by a gas station/convenient store in a small town of Anna, Illinois (not sure of the spelling). After filling up I decided to use the washroom but the door was locked. I went to the clerk to ask for the keys but he told me that the washroom was broken. As I was leaving a Caucasian gentlemen walked in. I don’t know what was said but as I was pulling out of the station I saw him went into the washroom with a key. Would you have met that same “A**hole?”, I don’t think so..

A couple of weeks before my project was over my family flew in and joined me so we can go on vacation before returning home to Europe. My kids wanted to go to Disney but my wife and I wanted to visit New Orleans. So we took the scenic route and decided to pass by New Orleans first. On the way there, we stopped at a coffee shop in Mississippi. As I was getting some cookies for my kids and coffee for me and my wife, my son asked if he could use the washroom. The clerk pointed us to where the washroom is. A family of 4 was on a table along the way. The man seating on a chair by the aisle closest to the washroom pulled a chair to block the aisle so my son and I will have to go around and not passed next to them. I just looked at this mans face in disbelief but did not create a scene. I don’t want my vacation ruined. On the way out I looked at the clerk and he whispered, “I’m sorry”. Again would you have met that A**hole I referred to?, I definitely doubt it..

So you see I’ve met and seen many more a**hole in the US than you for the mere fact that I am different (not much of a problem in Europe) and at the same time I probably would not meet those, a**holes that you met in the Philippines during your visits for the same reasons. Not even considering the cultural/idiosyncratic quirks that we learned growing up which made us differ in our perception of rudeness.

Respect in general term is always depend in a situation we are in for. And we cannot expect someone to be respecful if they are not in a habit in doing so. Now adays we always come to compare everything and anything. We can not just let thing on each own. We even can not keep our self, our values, culture , character, belief , attitude, manner and more..., on its own. We always in a constant changes to adjust our self to what going on around us and where we going.
The one thing we always forgot is we are all different. So, before we compared everything and anything ,look at first our hand and see that even our finger are not in thesame lenght. Meaning one person happiness is another person nightmare simple as that.

    "we reap what we sow"

Most Filipinos live day by day and tomorrow is another . A one day wages is a whole day meal. Tomorrow problems will take care in itself. The reason why of the smile despite in the face of adversity and hardship. That the one hell of a reason to show us respect no matter what your reason to come to our country.

Here in western world F*** You is cool , calling your parents, uncle and older person in their first name is normal , what normal and cool in here will not be cool and normal in the Philippines.

Hopefully we can just learned to accept each other differences and go on talking and argue and be glad that we have in this forum people to talk too and argue but the bottom line respect each other argument and sleep with it who know maybe one day you can be in each other home.

Right on Panday....This habit you mention is a kind of bravado it is a challenge thrown out to anybody to dare and question it.This goes along with walking out into the road without looking knowing a car is approaching daring the driver to not slow or stop.....its called attitude.
Once again this is seen in certain movies and copied by a minority here in the UK and I guess in the USA also.

Yeah I traffic can be immense but I feel it is rather more chaotic then the clear agression I see here.

Tbh the day by day living I find hard to deal with, it also seems to incl blowing your money away (and then ask help and loans), planning seems a nightmare.
