Hi there! Generally, I think the politeness and courtesy can still be observed in many places, even on the roads. However, there are some instances wherein one experiences some rudeness but this happens occasionally. It is not an "all the time" thing. Filipinos, especially Dumaguetenos are still good people. I agree that some foreigners here are quite rude.

Well, give a point to LTO for even having a teacher use a board to show traffic signs! What signs are there here in Duma........beside the red bar for "Do Not Enter" ? Unless you want to anyhow......I have yet to see a "Stop" sign, a "Yield" sign; shall I ask about a working traffic light? What about a "working" TMO??...oh yes, some by Lee Plaza.
What do you mean....."without legal backing"? Or are you insinuating that there really IS a set of National Traffic Standard Enforcement codes?? LOL!!
That student class must be very, very interesting. Can I go?

That's one of the things I like about this place. They have plenty of those things in Cebu and Manila. Doesn't seem to help the situation.

going back to the original point:

Well I think it is a worldwide trend and every generation feels the following generation is becomming less polite and ruder. Overall societies tend to get harder and more individualistic, not more friendly and social. Overall world population growth and world markets might be an influence, more and more people are in for the same part of the pie.

After reading all your comments I sense you or the readers digest have never been to Cyprus, who are without a doubt the most dangerous, rudest drivers on the planet. After living there for far too many years I lost 3 friends in separate fatal accidents all caused by Cypriots either drunk or on the phone and the conclusion for murder was blamed on the dead drivers shoulders,by the corrupt police force because he/ she was not Cypriot and right after the accident relatives of the Cypriot would turn up to be the witness.
Or try standing in a que at a supermarket while some Cypriot pushes in front of you and when you finally get to the teller you are totally ignored and the change is thrown down in front of you without any exchange of words. when i first came here i was totally taken back by the helpfulnes of the staff and when you think of the wages they are being paid to stand for Hrs I think I would have a problem dealing with western customers who expect so much for so little even when the people serving you would love to have the luxury that we experience, and not suprising that there is bitterness creeping into the community with so many westerners throwing millions into properties and flashing the cash, maybe its time the westerners learnt a little manners and lived a little simplier, but they cant because they are all too busy bragging about how much cash they have spent.
These people are not rude, they are very hard working people who are having a rough deal being exploited not only by people in authority but by the rest of the world.. I only have admiration for these people. Next time you think the assistant is being rude by not smiling to your western charm ,smile and say hello, even if you dont get a response you can leave knowing that you were polite.

    Don,
As what i understand, the Philippines has a written traficcode, must be available in bookstore, but i have never seen it.
If you want to follow this seminar, it is possible, just ask for a studentpermit at LTO and they tell you when you can follow this seminar, it is always in the morning around 8:00 AM Philippino time and it is free.

Dangerous, rude drivers...Standing in a long line and having someone push ahead of you.....Being ignored and have someone else be served by the clerk.....Gee you're right...That's never happened to me here in the Philippines

As for the corrupt Cyprus cops they can take lessons from the Filipino cops in terms of high moral standards, training and honesty....Here in the Philippines when a foreigner gets into an accident with a Filipino, of course the courts do not favor the Filipino over the foreigner...Oh no, that never happens....Yes, Cyprus is sooo different from the Phils.....

I do not get it, in many countries a foreigner will always have the disadvantage, it is nothing specific for Philipines.

Phillipines is certainly not ruder then 90% of the countries in the world and tbh I have never been shoved, been ignored, driven over etc. Disinterested service personel and rude and corrupt cab drivers you will find everywhere (well it their loss I tip well for decent service). Locals being annoyed with visitors as well (man it is high season here and am turning into a complete tourist hating xenofobe atm, I have a hard time to keep friendly to these idiots who think that abroad the middle of a crossroad is a good place to take out their map and orient their position, or take 20 min to find out how an atm works and what of their 10 cards works on it, completly ignoring the worldwide signs on machines and cards).
