My wife and I have been to the Monarch Sands Resort on several occasions and reccommend it highly. Well off the beaten track, quiet with no city noises, great beach, beautiful sunsets. The meals are delicious, helpful staff and an outgoing, fun loving host, Ron, from the USA. The resort is having a Fourth of July party this Saturday. There will be a buffet at 200 pesos per person, fireworks, horseshoes. Of course swimming and snorkeling equipment is cheap to rent. Also the kids love the tire inner tubes for the surf. We will stay the night and at 900 pesos for a cottage rental, it's going to be an inexpensive, leisurely weekend.

I've stayed at Monarch Sands a couple of times. A buddy of mine runs the place.

I personally like Cottage 4, I believe is the number. It is the highest cottage on the coral cliff.

A suggestion from me would be to rent a motorcycle in Dumaguete (don't pay more than Php 250 for every 24 hours rental) and drive down to the resort yourself. I don't know if they have any sort of transport now, but they didn't have any dedicated vans before. The first time we went there, we paid a van to take us down. But, trust me, you are better off with your own sort of transportation to get around there. It is, as chi_town said, "off the beaten track".

I believe, the first turn off to get to the resort is at kilometer post 51, if I recall correctly. Take that road left and then it will be about 7 kilometers or so to the resort. The next turn off is just north of Saiton, a fork in the road that splits off going north. That turn off will also be off to your left. I'm not sure of the distance getting to the resort that way, but it will probably be around the same distance, 6 or 7 kilometers.

The cottages are native built, with concrete cr's (bathrooms). Although there are no water heaters in the showers, the water is not very cold. It is quite nice, in fact, to take a shower there. Anyway, the place is quite peaceful, and I recall waking up in the early hours before dawn, looking up to see lightening bugs in the rafters.

It is definitely a place to go if you wish to get away from it all.

I am a little bit confused because the other post about Monarch Sands mentions that you use the road with the Tambobo Bay sign (which I believe is near km 44 or 45?), while this one says the first turn is by km 51. I'm wondering if there is anyone who can tell me which road to take exactly? Thanks! :D

You can get there either way. If you take the Tambobo road (Not a good road in my experience, but I hear they have been working on it) turn right at the end of the road. Monarch Sands is on the left about 1.5 km. If you go to KM 47, make a sharp left, and follow the road back about 5 KM to MS on the right. This road is generally in decent shape.

Look for a short rock wall next to the road on the ocean side.
