... can you dismantle the saw ? like what the member been said the box is sturdy to keep your stuff safe. And those thick towel you mention come in handy to wrap your blender , and fill your blender with your splenda sugar...and spices  more importantly , keep the list of everything you put into the boxes.

you ready to go and you are custom free

here's what happened to us, we had a ice cream maker sent over, plus a load of Tampax, when they opened the box for inspection, they asked "what "these" were for" when i told them, they quickly packed it all away and we left laughing.

Excellent advice. Thank you. I have also been informed it may not be a bad idea to put a ten dollar bill in the box just in case. She said it has always been there when it arrived. P.S. good story.

I've been here over 20 years in DGT and I still manage to learn something new everyday, (good or bad, is a matter of opinion though). If you stop learning about a place and its inhabitants, maybe it's time to move on, to pastures new?

One simple and brief answer to it........
    EXPECTATIONS.
Us long noses often expect or at least are used to expect value for money, good and reliable service, good product knowledge and above all, quality.
In most cases you can forget all about it when in the Phils........
It takes 10 times as much to get something done and even then is not done properly. Burocracy and red tape are rumpant (another name for corruption and bribery)......there is always another day attitude if you know what I mean. The message is, either one gets use to it and goes with the flow, else he gets a nervous breakdown.

    Sprink,

Cut out some cardboard, sized exactly to the bottom of the inside of the balikbayan box and use Elmer's glue to attach it to the bottom. Gives another layer of strength. Check out your shipper. Forex has boxes in two sizes. Might be wise to have someone in the States knowledgeable about shipping balikbayan boxes so they can send you "Care" boxes occassionally.

    just jump

I think the best advice I can give is don't loan anyone anything, especially money. You won't get it and they will ask again and again. Just say you don't have any extra and your living on a tight budget. I think that rule is international. Make friends slowly, ahh its great here and the people are for the most part, more friendly then any where I have ever been. Enjoy the experience, This is a beautiful place.....
