    Hi Everyone,

We are planning our 1st trip to Negros in October. Been to and ridden a bit on Luzon and Mindoro, but short local trips on Scooters etc.

    Question:

Are there are any reputable rental shops in Duma that have the likes of a Transalp, KLR650, or other robust machine capable of some extended (2-3 week) excursions over varied terrain?

I have a list of about a dozen shops in Duma, but haven't contacted any yet. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

I know absolutely NOTHING about motorcycles, so I had to look this one up. Do you seriously believe that you will actually find one of these for rent in Dumaguete?

I don't mean to sound offensive. Most rental shops here will part with a Honda 110 or equivalent. That's about it.

    Good luck!

Not offended at all and thanks for the reply. But exactly why I ask about the situation in Duma. We are going to rent a motorcycle and tour PI regardless. We will be seeing family in La Union, Luzon anyway, so will probably rent in Angeles, then tour the Cordilleras region for a few days.

If a decent bike was available in Duma, then we would just turn the Angeles one back in and fly down to Duma and tour Negros, Panay, Cebu etc from there. But we can ride all the way down and back too. That's the whole idea anyway.

    Thanks,

Saw the philippinemototour site and word is they are a good, professional crew. But we're going on our own w/o guide. Do they rent out their bikes w/o a tour? Seriously doubt it, but could ask I guess.

Maybe i'm wrong but i think that a rented motor may not leave the island where it was rented.

That depends on the rental company. Some do and others wont

Thanks for the tip on the possibility for inter-island restrictions. Definitely something to inquire about. Hopefully paying a full month rental fee in advance will be a bit of an incentive to let us roll unrestricted.

A lot of places wont mind if you leave your passport or plane ticket as some kind of collateral. I do it with a photo copy of passport, depending on the customer also:cool:

Of course there's always, "what the eye doesn't see, the heart doesn't grieve" too!

PS Dave, you need any more thai curry paste? (Since I'm over here anyway, if so what colour?) May be back in a month or two.
