    Hello people,

I need some information regarding all ISP there. Also, is there any coverage in Rivera Road, Bantayan? I am so desperate about it. I have been googling it for days now and couldn't find anything except Sky. Do they have wireless at all? Any suggestions would be appreciated... Thanks!

    Maybe Rovira Rd?

In THEORY, you should be able to get Globe DSL, Sky Cable, Smart Bro wirless, Globe wireless or Quest wireless in Bantayan. I say in theory because a site survey will have to be conducted in order to ensure they have available ports or in the case of wireless that their are no obstructions between the prospective location of your antenna and their nearest tower.

Thank you so much! I am actually here in the US right now and I am having problem when it comes to communicating my sister. She just moved there in Dumaguete about 2 months ago. I would like her to get internet connection so we could call each other through VoIP or at least chat. I already inquire SKY but the thing is my sister don't have a computer instead she will be using a laptop. That means she need a wireless connection and not a cable connection so SKY is not an option. Any idea which one is better? Thank you.

What kind of notebook is your sister using? The last I knew they were still putting CAT5 NICs and wireless cards (if you ordered a wireless one) as a standard options on nearly every model made. It should be your choice if you want wireless or a cable. using the cable would actually provide the better speed connection. I have not seen a wireless connection only yet.

I am sure her laptop has an ethernet port, if not it can be added cheaply and easily. So, she can use any kind of internet service. However, you probably don't want Sky anyway because they limit their upstream to only 80kbps which is not enough for a quality VoIP application.

The fastest/easiest thing for her to do is to use a 3G cell phone (or buy a P2,500 dopple) for Smart Prepaid Internet (accesses the internet thru 3G cell phone towers)...then she can just use Smart load to fund her account whenever she is online and it should work fine anywhere in the City. Of course, if she is online alot, this would not be the best option as it runs about P20 per half hour.

If your sister want to use a labtop with wireless receiver, she need to purchase a wireless router for maybe 2.000 or 3.000 peso and connect that one to whatever outlet her internet provider install in her house, e.g. an ADSL modem.

I really don´t think the option to install a wireless router in her house has anything to do with, how the signal is transfered from the internet provider to her house.

Also as Pedro say, labtops normally have a port for plugging in an internet cable the same way, that you would in a stationary computer. So you are not forced to use the wireless option. It is just more convenient, that is all.

Internet through cellphones is fine, but it does not cover the needs described here, which is to be able to make phone calls over the internet and/or use chat programs like Skype or Messenger.

I would suggest your sister to inquire first, if Globe DSL is available in her area. And if not, then proceed with one of the wireless solutions from Smart, Globe or Quest.

And here the word wireless refer to, how the signal is transfered from the internet provider to the house of your sister. Not how it is transferred from the equipment, the internet provider install in her house, to her labtop.

Internet trough 3G (cellphone or USB-stick) is extremely slow and certainly not fitted for phonecalls but you only pay what you consume.
DSL,cable-internet, smartbro and so are much better but you must sign a contract for at least one year and that's why it doesn't fit for a tourist stay of a few months.

There a hot 3G or hspa in town its call SmartBro Share-It.
heres what I saw in googling the net

Speed : Up to 2 Mbps
No. of Hours use : *UNLIMITED good for up to 5 PCs
Connection : Wireless Connection (Via Wifi Router)
Requirements : Subscriber Application Form, Proof of Address, Proof of Identification and signed Waiver Form.
    Total Initial Payment : 1st mo. MSF P999 + one-time router fee P2,500
    Lock-in Period : 12 months

2Mbps is tested as long as hspa signal is available according to feedbacks, It smokes any globe crap 512kbps 3G and wimax, I am subscribe to 512kbps globe wimax right now and speed is really is not enough.

    Hello guys,

Thank you very very very much for the helpful info regarding ISP. Yes I just found out that the laptop that I am about to get have ethernet port so no worries about it now. I also talked to one of the sales representative of SKY and she told me that they have coverage all over Bantayan. As to what richard said, it's kinda promising but I am not sure if they also cover Bantayan. If they do, I would like to try it thought. Will find out soon. Again, guys, thank you all... I really do appreciate everything.
