Hello guys and gals, looking forward to a possible retirement in the Phils......one of the few things holding me back is the absence of a medical cover.....or is it? A travel insurance would cover you only for a month or two, then what? Pay for any test, intervention, medication? Traveling to neighbouring countries seeking a good hospital would be an even more expensive proposition, so out of the question. So what next? Let the dice roll hoping never to get sick? What is on the grapevine? I've asked feedback about this already but no proper reply came through, I start to assume that either all expats are in excellent health or dead. I believe US citizens have some kind of health cover, especially ex servicemen, available to them. What about EEC nationals? How can the Philippines be sold as retirement heaven without any medical health care worth talking about?
there is a older thread about PI insurance. I hope it helps a bit http://www.dumagueteinfo.com/board/...alth-insurance-1823.html?highlight=blue+cross Rhoody wrote a lot about retirement heaven or hell... just make s search
Thanks rechel, yeah, i remember now seeing this thread.....a long while ago. Any more recent feedbacks from anyone? Liked the notion of letting nature take its course though....
Health Insurance Thanks for the advice about Philhealth, The only question I have can anyone get this insurance or do you have to be a filipino or married to one. thanks again Mike
To be honest I am not really sure about that. I am married to a Filipina as far as that goes. But I think you do need to be married to a Filipina or be a Filipino to get Phil Health. But why would you want to live here unless you are married..
He Teach ....are you out of your mind since you went back home to Mindanao ? You have to be married to live here ???? I got many advises to live here and being NOT married :D
Hey Jellyfish Living in the Philippines is truly a wonderful thing. But without a wife you are just a guest and that is a disadvantage. Everyone seems to like finding a way cheat so they can have what they want in the Philippines. If you are here for the girls to be honest they want a husband not a lifetime boyfriend and that is just taking advantage of women and very wrong. If you marry a bar girl sure you may have a problem and marrying a city girl the same thing. If my wife wasn’t a Filipina it would just be too much trouble to stay. But I’m not so old that I have a check coming in every month. I have to make money I have to live. I left America to simplify my life and it has been the best thing I ever did. My wife is the greatest woman I have ever met. I mean really why would someone live here if they didn’t have a wife? Think about all of the complaints that we hear on an endless list of issues. Why would they stay if they were not married..?
