Be sure to ask your Sky representative about the size/speed of their UPLOAD. VoIP (Voice over IP) requires both download and upload bandwidth. Sky limits their upload to only 80kbps. This is not enough upload for most VoIP applications. I would suggest you consider Smart Bro or Globe DSL. I have both...Globe is faster, but Smart Bro is more reliable. If your primary use is VoIP, I would go with Smart Bro for P999 per month.

 

Am sorry I have no experience to this pakage,,but am planning to make an inquiry soon,,This Infos can also be found on Smart Official Web site, its better for you to make an inquiry at smart dumaguete. You and can also google and read feedbacks,,,speeds reaches around 1.5 Mbps to 2 Mbps according to them,,for a 999 pesos thats absolutely superior than globe and skycable pakage. on 999 pesos range.

 

If the main purpose of the internet connection is to enable long distance calls over the internet (VoIP-calls), then it is really not important, if the download speed is 1 or 2 Mbps.

What is important is the upload spead and not least the stability of the connection. I can confirm from my own experience, that a 1 Mbps connection from Globe DSL work just fine for VoIP-calls - most of the time.

How the other solutions work, I have no idea. But I would personally prefer to play it safe and go with an established solution / provider rather than something completely new and untried.

The download speed is really only important, if you plan to watch streaming TV over the internet, or similar very demanding use.

Internet Cafes in Dumaguete Uses Bayantel, the only known lowest ping ISP in PI., Cafes need low ping rate coz of online gaming.

 

Globe Telephone Numbers - Dumaguete

Globe will not give out any local phone numbers, only their national call center. (Get ready to have fun with Globe Customer Service! Most of the time they tell you something can be done, no problem, just visit the local office in person. Then, the local office will tell you that no, that can't be done...) The only way I know to reach Globe Customer Service via phone is by dialing "171" from a Globe landline.

The more I think about it, the more I would recommend that you go with Smart Bro. They have better Customer Service (dial *1888 from any Smart cell phone) and are more reliable. The speeds are slower, but sufficient for VoIP, email, IM, basic surfing, etc.

The internet cafes do usually use Bayantel here. Maybe for the reason mentioned above, not sure. However, Bayantel only offers business accounts and in a limited area downtown in Dumaguete. When I have run speedtests at various internet cafes, however, they never seem to have as much bandwidth as I get at home...they may be due to having multiple users though.
