Bayawan is nice, but sad. There is nothing like Dumaguete. Trust me, been living here for 54 years and counting, had visited Cebu, Manila, Bacolod and other cities in Negros Oriental, but not one of them comes close to the uniqueness of Dumaguete life with all the trykes, beggars (coming from other places), vendors selling "torotot", the boulevard with its stench at certain times, etc. Dumaguete is a small city with a lot of rural touch to it, so that's where the charm probably emanates. I couldn't blame Chantal for making such harsh judgments about the city since he'd been here only for 8 hours! As I said, you have to really live here to appreciate the city's charm which Chantal didn't see. As a native of the city, I could only apologize to Chantal for all the inconveniences he had encountered during his brief stay here. I wish you good luck on your travels.

    Mr Rhoody,
As moderator surely one could expect you to set an example. The reason for a forum is DISCUSSION. Why must you continually indulge in personal, baseless, unsubstantiated innuendos.

I wrote my impressions after a fleeting visit to Dumaguete. Sure it was negative to the extreme, I do not apologize for this. This was and remains my views.

Many readers have agreed with me that in comparison to other similar sized cities in Philippines, Dumaguete leaves a lot to be desired. Mr Rhoody you live in Dumaguete, plus disagree with my comments. For the benefit of readers, (many whom have not yet visited) could you please refrain from personal attacks and use your undoubted abilities to write about the positive aspects of the city. This will benefit many readers, especially those whom maybe considering a move.

The post is about Dumaguete, please for the sake of the forum can we stick to it.

    well my dear,

I don't think I need to repeat myself as you are obviously way to lazy to read what others members (including me) write in the forum about Dumaguete and it's benefits and problems.

You cant even read your own thread proper. (here what I wrote)
It does not really matter if you post with Cyclop or Chantal, it is a amusing read. (of course with some truth)

I even agree with you partially.(but of course a one-eyed cyclop will miss half and only reads what he/she wants to read)

I also think that I am writing a lot of negative stuff an critics about many Duma-related topic from medical facilities to education, traffic, internet and power-supply and and and.

Will I continue to tell our readers about multiple personality disorders and BS-posts?

    Of course I will.
Well, for those who don't like that....

don't look at DI, unless somebody stands life-threatening with a gun behind you an force you to do so.

again I can only recommend you two, to search and read a bit more BEFORE traveling to a place so far away from home

    Visiting Dumaguete

I just registered so that I could post on this topic. I lived in Dumaguete for 10 of the last 14 years.

    Chantal made some mistakes.

#1. She didn't have her bag prior to docking. A 10 kilo bag is easy to handle. Porters are desperate for money. If they can't get bags, then they can't feed their kids, drink beer that night, or whatever. Expecting them to prioritize your feelings over vital issues like that is just silly. Keep your bag in hand or pay with a smile.

#2. She walked the boulevard at low tide. I'm not aware of anyone claiming that Dumaguete has a world-class boulevard, but it's not hard to figure out that low tide isn't the best time for strolling it.

#3. She stayed in the restaurant despite the music being louder than she liked. If the music is too loud for you, smile and walk out. If the tables aren't clean enough for you, smile and walk out. If the place doesn't suit you for whatever reason, smile and walk out. Save your complaints for back home, because they won't do any good here.

#4. She had trouble walking downtown. Dumaguete walking takes some adjustment for most foreigners, but the choices are fairly obvious. 1. You can try to walk on the sidewalk normally. This will frustrate you and convince the other people on the sidewalk that you're rude. 2. You can adjust your walking speed to the locally accepted snail's pace, and probably still get where you're going eventually. 3. You can walk in the road. Chantal probably tried the first way.

#5. People in Dumaguete are extremely fond of blocking entrances and exits. But Chantal is wrong to say "one simply must fight and push to enter". She missed a great opportunity. When your way is blocked, smile at a person who is in the way and ask if you can pass. Then repeat the process over and over again until you're past. It's an easy phrase to learn in Visayan, and using Visayan makes it a lot more fun. It's slow, of course, but if you can't slow down to have some fun then you should consider a lifestyle change.

#6. She tried to see the city by driving around on a rented motorcycle. Dumaguete isn't much bigger than a postage stamp, and has over 100,000 people. I don't agree that driving around town is difficult, but it certainly isn't fun. If you want to tour, wait for the early evening so that it isn't too hot, then tour on foot. Save motorcycle renting for visits to nearby towns.

As a location, Dumaguete seems designed to maximize inconvenience while minimizing comfort. There isn't any "thing" in or about the place that I particularly like that much. I originally went intending a short visit, then stayed because of the people. If you're friendly, have a bit of sense, and respect the fact that the Philippines belongs to Filipinos, then Dumaguete can be a wonderful place to live / visit. Because real quality of life is determined by who you are and who you're with.

Mr Rhoody for starters you have the gender wrong.........Further all your accusations are false how ever thats not the issue of the post....

Its sadly obvious that your just unable to refrain from personal attacks, this is not the purpose for a forum.

Further you must reply on others with a better command of the English language to do your battle.

While I agree with what your off sider has written it does not alter the fact that Dumaguete is just not comparable with other similar sized cities.

don't look at DI, unless somebody stands life-threatening with a gun behind you an force you to do so.

What sort of an imbecile would make such comments......And you a moderator......

    welcome back chantal

    Hello chantal ,
....i am hoping that you are not a filipino. Your point was been accepted, discussed and taken sided. My question to you , does anyone from this forum or from dumaguete invited you to come and visit our city and then failed you, for a royal welcome ? Is this all about the dumaguete or your alibi to smear the dumaguete info site ? It's a good thing that most dumaguetenios don't read this site, because i assure you , if they did, those people from Lee plaza entraces will be happy to crusify you in the middle of that road or you be runned for many times by the trike cab driver. When we were mad we eaten a person alive ! :p:p:p:p:p:D:D:D:D

this one make me laugh , i am thinking... you try to get into Rhoody's nerve, tell us the secret are you his former lover from his past life and now want to get even with him ? i like this senario we finally real lovers fued in the forum LOL
