    Hi,

Could anyone tell me if the Speech/Theatre program at Silliman University is any good? I know that it exists, but I haven't heard much about it. I'm also looking into the English/Literature program, or the Creative Writing program. I'm very interested in the stage or writing, so any information on these programs you can give me would be very helpful. Also, does anyone know if the Mass Communication school offers a concentration in editorial, or is it just broadcast journalism?

    Thank youuu! :D

You may want to take a visit at the university website and make acquaintance with the department.

I've done both, but I was just wondering if anyone has actually taken any of these programs or knows someone who has.

Oh you will be fine @Silliman. Since you are from Bagacay (according to your profile) you must have heard about the university and her achievements already. So you are in Texas and a student, not considering taking the course in Texas, then? Or are you coming back permanently to the PI?

Come and enroll at the Silliman University and hope to meet you during the Founder's Day, haha!

I will probably get flamed for this, but here goes: If you are living between Texas and the Philippines and are considering your university options, have you considered your options at home? Just FYI (For Your Information) here is a ranking of the World's 400 Best Universities: THE - QS World University Rankings 2009 - top universities | Top Universities

Silliman does not make the list. Only two schools in the Philippines do:

    #234 Ateneo de Manila University

#262 University of the Philippines (Diliman)

However, three schools in Texas make the list and all are ranked above the Philippine schools:

#76 University of Texas (Austin, Texas)

    #100 Rice University (Houston, Texas)

#179 Texas A&M University (College Station, Texas)

A separate listing of the Top 200 Universities in Asia is available. Four Philippine institutions made that list, Silliman was not among them, they were: UP Diliman, Ateneo de Manila, De La Salle and Santo Tomas.

The complete listing can be found here:

Asian University Rankings | Top Universities

Haha, thanks for the suggestion, but I've been there, done that. I did start studying in Texas, but tuition is far too expensive, especially when I was having to work at the same time in order to pay for an apartment, bills, etc. It just seems like a far more affordable alternative to stay with my family and go to school here.

I study Entrepreneurship at Silliman :D I know some people who are studying in Speech and Theatre, i think in their 3rd or 4th year you start directing plays of your own, as far as i know its part of COPA (College of Performing Arts) I don't know much about the literature programs though.

Silliman University has not been participating in the THES-QS... Last year, the University of the Philippines - Diliman refused to participate yet it was ranked as No.1 in the country...

Nonetheless, Silliman has about 300 foreign students representing 26 countries!
