If Estrada runs and win then your solution may be the only one left. How about Garbonzo for President!

    Get rid of the corruption

Thank you for your concern for your country. I am a guest in your country and i love it so much that i became a permanent resident.

I must agree with you that things need to change be for the Philippines can be lifted up and the Philippine people can life there heads in pride and say we have over come. It is up to the people of this wonderful land to lead the charge of change. I as an American am willing to back you every inch of the way but you have to lead. We as foreigners can sign petitions, but unless the people say enough is enough nothing will get done.

You have to start with your corrupt law makers and then clean up the crooks in the BIR, Immigration, Customs Department, the half hearted fight against Milf, (Abusiya ? Spelling ? ) and elect a President that is willing to stand up for the people.

Also the monopoly that the major retailers have in your country is a sad commentary on how to keep the people poor through high prices and low quality of products. You buy it and it breaks one week later. The Philippine people are being raped of there money and they are so naive they don't even know it. They think this is the way the rest of the world operates. Things are so over priced here i think i am back in the U.S. But at least we get quality in food and products for the prices we pay.

There is a philosophy in the U.S. and maybe the rest of the world. Change the children's way of thinking and you will change the world. The proof is in the educating of the children that Global Warming is going to destroy the earth. They go home and cry that we are destroying the world. So! What do the parents do? They eventually fall in line with what the children have been taught. Thats how you change a society. You change it through the children!

You could start with the collage age kids because the tend to be rebellious at that age and they can cause change if they are brave enough to demonstrate and stand up for what they believe.

My Hart goes out to you folks, it really does. I pray that you have a better life some day, You have earned it. reach out and take it! It is waiting for you and your people.

Moveingon, thank you so much for your post. Yes, there's a lot of work to be done. I and my organization have partnered with GK in many of their projects in the Philippines. Our class have sponsored the establishments of a couple of villages in the surrounding provinces in Manila, from donated lots. GK stands for Gawad Kalinga. I met Mr. Meloto, the founder of GK, when we invited him to speak in one of our fund raising dinners, a couple of years ago. Very unassuming guy, full of enviable ideas and hope for the country and compassion for the poor.

At the GK Villages, the homeless and the poor are given a small decent house to live in but there is a strict qualification process. The family not just the father, are required to attend several meetings and educational seminars on how to live in a community and how to be responsible for their own community as well as their surroundings and welfare of their neighbors. The result is beyond our belief. Poor people, uneducated taking the responsibility of leadership in their community. You change the infrastructure and you change the people's perspective about the world around them.

We are just one of the many groups that travel to the Philippines several months in a year on a mission of life. Some are medical missionaries, others are there to help educate the people and dole out donated books, computers, etc, to schools and childrens. We fly under the radar most of the time and does not advertise our intentions because we do not want to be used as pawns by the local authorities to gain Browny Points, from their constituents. We do it mostly with the support of local organizations. The Rotarians, the Masons and many more. They are a big help in many of our projects.

Yes, we are trying to change the Philippines from the bottom, right from the gutters, but it will take years to achieve our goal. We need like minded Filipinos to take initiative in forming their own group and joining our ideals. Do not wait until change get to you. Start a nidus of change within your community and one of these day the boundaries of all these points will meet and the Philippines will be reborn...

I'm sorry if I went on and on again. I don't want this post to appear as a solicitation. I just merely want to explain that the change have begun many years ago but it will take many more years for us to see the result. I may not be here to see it, I hope my children will be.

" I don't have any formula for ousting a dictator or building democracy. All I can suggest is to forget about yourself and just think of your people. It's always the people who make things happen"

    Cory Aquino

Panday with many more people like yourself change will happen.

Personaly I think the US system is killing for any nation that has corruption issues and clannish social structures, way too much power to elected officials, way too little accountability and everything is short term focussed.

Getting elected is often like getting the keys to the candystore and to get ellected you need money and if you get ellected you own favoures all over the place.

The US are really not doing people favours by exporting their model and they do not seem to learn, look at Vietnam where their 'democratic' allies were so corrupt it destroyed any hope to win that one and now Afganistan has the same, foreign soldiers and civilians dying by the thousands, while a smal group is filling their pockets and moving their money to Switzerland since they are well aware the whole thing will colapse.
