Your son should be thrilled to learn that under the Philippine system, he has already graduated! They stop at grade 10. Their are no International Baccalaureate schools here...only one in all of the Visayas and Mindanao: Cebu International School in Cebu City.

There are schools that call themselves "International" in their name, but that does not denote any recognition in foreign countries or having met any overseas standards, it's just marketing.

there are some threads about quality of schools in Duma here on DI but you will find there is basically that locals say Silliman is awesome, while everybody else says there is definitely no scool here with international standard. The schools here are for students very loooong days with no or very little useful content for life outside the PI.

There are some options for online courses and teaching available which might be interesting for you.

You can find some valuable international schools in Cebu and Manila. But I am sure a US teenager grade 11 will be in heaven whatever school he goes in the PI ... hehe

If The parent cannot even spell high school there might not be much of a chance for the child!

At 11th grade your son is so close to being an adult that perhaps you should leave the ball in his court. The best options for your son might be to figure out a way to stay in the U.S. or finish my school in the Philippines via some sort of online high school completion program. He might even be able to accomplish this through online programs offered by your local colleges (in the U.S.) Attending school in the Philippines might be a huge waste of time for your son.

While I agree with Rhoody that living in the Philippines could be great fun for a guy in high school, I'm not sure that would be a great option beyond taking a long vacation and experiencing life outside the U.S. (no work, bad options for school.) Alternatively, he could get creative like I did and figure out a way to work for himself and live cheaply in the Philippines, especially considering that the unemployment rate in the U.S. for 15 - 24 year olds is crazy high.

Yes, I think you might want to consider enrolling your son at a Montessori school here in Dumaguete. There are a number of US-schooled kids who are now enrolled there. All I can say is that it's not really that bad.

just out of curiosity, because I think I don't understand you...

You recommend a school in Dumaguete with no credentials to be suitable for a US-Teenager(or young adult) who need to attend a grade which is not even existing in the Philippine educational system ?

Please tell me that the misstake is on my side and I don't understand what you try to say .

Hmm...Montessori school stops at grade 10. His son is grade 11. Would you suggest that he repeats grade 10??

I would look at online programs where your son can receive a U.S.-accredited high school diploma. That is, unless you choose to live in Cebu or Manila where internationally accredited schools exist.

My children went to Motessorri (MONEYSORRY) Biggest mistake for their education. I feel it is nothing more than a glorified day care center

If 11th grade is equivalent to 4th year high school here and the kid passes the entrance exam for that level, then I think he goes straight to that level if he passes. I heard that the owner/proprietor of the Montessori school here taught in a Montessori school in the US and became a principal (or something) of that school. A friend of mine who just arrived from the US has all her kids enrolled in the local Montessori and she said her kids love it there and she herself is not complaining. Anyway, you might want to try the first American school in the Philippines which is Silliman University. See if the kid can gain admission after the entrance exam to test his grade level
