One of the reasons for the class is if the Filipina says something to her husbands face and goes off spinning in circles, she needs to know how to get help.

    Passport for Girl Friend

I appreciate some of this dialoque. I am on my first visit to PI and departed Dgte this week and soon to depart PI for Thailand.

I learned a great deal helpful to my current situation. I have just met a sweet and sincere girl I want to know better. She tells me she has been looking to meet someone to spend her life with. We met along the 1/4 mile boulvarde New Years day.

She is so so young I am doubtful she knows what she is taking on as I am a young 60 ish man. We only had one day together as she was leaving Jan 2 and I had my Ocean Jet ticket to Tagbilaran Jan 4. I am off Jan 21 for a 3 month visit to Thailand.

She wants me to come to her graduation 3 rd week in March.

I am thinking it would be prudent to fly her to Thailand for a few weeks before I have to leave end of April. She may change her mind once she sees what a curmugeon I can be and she can get on with a more rational life and find someone nearer her own age.

Q: Would she be able to get passport etc in time to visit me ? That would be roughly 10 weeks ?

I hope I am asking the correct forum and apologize if it's not exactly on topic.

On topic I reckon the PI have concerns for their people and could be seen to be taking care of the naive filipinas. However speaking as someone who has lost his mind in the beaurocratic wars I understand the frustrations. All beaurocracy is mindless even when efficient. It grows and feeds on fear and money and it is not rational. Try not to take it personal. It does not care.

    Good luck with the process.

You reminded me of an old Latin saying, particularly apt, when dealing with governments, both local and national : - "Radix malorum est cupiditas" (Greed is the root of all evil).
I disagree with the last part though, it is entirely rational in their eyes, they think you have money and they want it.

I think there is time for you to get her a passport for thailand, if she is over 18 I think she can come, still customeary to filipinas, I think they would asked their parents if it's OK to come with you to Thailand.

Thanks Maximus. We had a web camera /messenger session and she tells me her parents are ok with her knowing me. God knows what she told them about me. She tells me her uncle is high ranking police and will help expedite the process, he told her getting a passport to Thailand was relatively easy. We don't know the costs yet.
    Thanks again.

dharmabum, to get a passport is not expensive but i think she still need to go to cebu for personal appearance not unless there is an office now in dumaguete because back then when i got my passport i went to cebu for personal appearance. so she needs money for the bus or boat, probably one night in the hotel and food. Good luck!

Okay here is what I did..

I got my wife a passport in her maiden name which was easy because she went to and employment service which gave her a letter so she could get a passport from the DFA so she could met there requirements of course she did not sign up with the agency after she got her passport..then I had her passport amended to her married name.. which was easy way to go.. work the system or it will work you.. I mean really it is like a God give right to figure out how to beat the system.. :D

Thats twice I beat the Counselling requirement in the Philippines. first time the marriage then the passport..

But the Philippines wins most of the time..

Thanks for the tip Teacher. I am planning to write a letter the father/family of my sweetheart and ask permission for her to meet me in Thailand for a courtship period in April. I will pay expenses. Getting a passport for Thailand only will be easiest 1 st step I hope.
If we are compatible then we can proceed. I must go home to Canada after that. No options.
Two landed Filipino's, a couple, have cleaning contract for my building at home. They are nice people and may agree to invite her to work on 3 month visa. She comes to my home, sees the outside world and we spend more time together etc. Then she can return to PI (Negros) and process her experience. By that time it will be getting close to another dismal winter and I will be ready for some sun in PI again and we can get together on her territory. I meet her family etc and learn the way of her land.
Then if that all goes ok . I invite her to visit my home again , same as before on work visa. Marry her, and apply for her Canadian Passport. At same time give documents required to her embassy to register marriage etc and get permenent PI international passport. In the end she will end up with dual citizenship and be legal both countries.
Of course we both know the best way to hear God laugh is to announce you plans.
