    NOISE problems

To those of you who have noise problems such as loud TVs or sound systems of neighbors, videoke operations, etc., here is my advice:

    1) meet these thoughtless people in the barangay hall and threaten to sue them if you can get a medical certificate indicating that your health has deteriorated because of their loud noise.

    2) to those of you who are near videoke businesses costing P5 per song, go to the Municipal Planning and Dev't Coordinator (MPDC) and ask what is the zoning of the spot where the videoke business is placed. If that spot is classified as RESIDENTIAL in the zoning, the municipal officials can be questioned for that. Check also if these videoke operators have a permit - a paper which bears the signature of the mayor. Take note that the receipt reflecting the amount they have paid as corresponding fees to operate is NOT CONSIDERED a permit.

    3) renewal of business permit must be done on or before jan. 20 every year. before these videoke businesses can renew their permit, prepare a letter addressed to the mayor and indicate in the letter the reasons why the videoke should be closed. The more the reasons the better! Then ask all those people in the neighborhood who are against the videoke to put their name, address and signature, then attach this to the letter. After this go to the barangay officials and get their endorsement. Next, get a copy of the whole set (the letter, the signatures and the endorsement from the barangay), take along with you the people who are grumbling because of the videoke and all of you should personally see the MAYOR and air out all your grievances.

In my case, I got 63 signatures, went to the mayor together with the affected neighbors and right there and then, the VIDEOKE was ordered closed.

I think if you can afford to retire, you could probably afford a set of earplugs/headphones?

i would look like a fool wearing ear plugs the whole day roaming around the 1.9 hectare property. I came to have peace and quiet. REST and SLEEP is important to keep people sane, to succeed in life.

From the looks of it, your comment reflects that you are one of those who love noise. Have you taken some rest lately?

Frankly no, not for a minute, in the last 21 years I've lived in Dumaguete My only advice to you and sorry if I have to repeat myself, due to your deafness is:- if you don't like the noise here either wear silly looking earplugs/headphones or leave Negros/Philippines. Sorry I've no sympathy, we all have a choice to live in the "twilight zone". If you don't like it, leave, if you can handle it, don't whinge......you're not a P.O.M.E. are you?

Without putting too fine a point on it, you may have p*ssed off alot of local, "budding", karaoke singers, who may not be, the immediate 63 neighbors of the discontinued -"K. lounge/(possibly) calenderia". I sincerely hope that some of the folks who used to sing there, who may have little else in their lives, 'cept an occasional song now and again (and a litre or two of red horse beer), well, maybe more now then again, don't find you without 'bodyguards' at your next barangay fiesta dance. Best of luck.

    noise problem

well as a dumaguetenian....we live like this for a long time before foreigners start moving beside our houses...is it our fault really? respect? to whom? us natives loves it it is our way of starting and ending our day...and you expect us to change our way of living asking for respect...why don't you people out there respect us first and try to get along with us instead of trying to force us by taking some legal actions...there was never seems a problem until some foreigners start complaining about it...

If you have not antagonized them yet, try asking them nicely to tone down the volume . It might just work. If you don't get any positive results ask the barangay captain of your area to handle it. In this country it is important to be polite when you make requests. Please do not talk down to them This will never get you anywhere.

I am a Filipina and the noise bothers me too. Be nice to the locals and you will get much better results.

    I remeber once I had

a very noisy neighbor from early in the morning all day the radio was a full volume. 5 am in the morning until they went to bed. I asked them many times to lower the volume but they would not listen. So I felt turn about is fair play. I waited until they went to bed. Then turned on my stereo full volume in about five seconds they were at my door asking me to be quiet so they could sleep they said they would call the barangy captain I said go get him, then they said they would call the police I said call them. I told them if you can do as you please so can I. My wife told me not to say anything and not to do that. I was not allowed to listen to anything loudly my wife didn't want to disturb neighbors. But at any rate the next day the noisy neighbors were at a normal volume or at least something you could live with.. a couple of days after that a few of my neighbors came by to thank me. Because I did something about them and those neighbors were all Filipino's. I have found one thing to be true. Rude is rude and people are people. Just because your fellow Filipino's are afraid to say anything to you doesn't mean they like it.. you really should think of others before yourself.

    Noise Problem

The fact that I complain about the noise is enough proof that I have good sense of hearing. I am not DEAF! Can't you understand????

I am not from NEGROS! You must have taken something else in your system that is why you are like that. That is common to people who love noise. Am sure I would live a lot longer than you, that is for sure because I try to have a good rest.
