Group, maybe someone with more time in the region can help me. I know there are a number of "plantations" for lack of a better word in the area but does anyone know if there are any local coffee growers? I'm sorta coffee addicted and wonder if there is a local brand that i should try. I think by far the strongest I've ever had was Ethiopian coffee...jeezzz talk about a caffeine buzz; definately NOT Starbucks lol. Anyway, thanks for any info you guys (and gals) may have.

    Hi Ronin,
as to my knowledge there is no "local" coffee in Duma.
I looked also at a old thread about coffee (Coffee-thread) there you see that one of our members lolo is(was) growing his own. Just contact him, I guess you get some more information of him.... sounds like great stuff to me...:D Maybe there are some beans left

    cheers

There is at least one family owned coffee farm nearby. Owned by a woman who works in tourism office in Negros, or one of the staff there, I would have to research the name.

No locally grown coffee bean products in the grocery stores but one can buy fresh, dried coffee beans in the Duma market, roast them yourself, grind them, and brew them.

I see they are waking up to getting the Philippines as a major producer again.

Best coffee I ever had anywhere was in Bacolod many years ago when a friend was growing it on the side of Kanlaon. Sadly, he lost that plantation and his sugar fields when the prices dived....last I heard is in the US but that was a long time ago and would be amazed if he's still alive. No one seems to know. Coffee is definitely a growth industry now if the government is half clever about it. They do grow it well. And, as it likes the higher elevations, it would help keep the soil in one place where it has been denuded by wood theft. This could actually be a success story....
