Well, I think I said in one of my previous post that everyone reads about all of the negatives about The Philippines and, of course, the ladies here.
At that time, I mentioned that it could be because the sucessful relationships are so good that men don't have time to post about it.
    Such is my case......
It has now been 40 days since I got here. And to be very honest, every day is better than the one before.
Anyone who is hesitant about moving here needs to talk to me....about the country.....the people....and particulary about the ladies here.
Oh, I have had a few very minor problems, but that is to be expected anywhere, even had I stayed in the US.
I had my first problem when we flew to the Consulate in Cebu to get my permission slip to marry Rudy. We flew in one afternoon, stayed over night and got to the Consulte office first thing the next morning only to find that it was closed for MLK Jr. Day. So we went back here and went again a week later and got my paper. Very easy, very quick, very nice people to do business
    with at the Consulate.
The next problem was our marriage license. We had to take the required marriage seminar so that meant we had to wait a week.
Then at the end of the seminar, the other 3 local couples got their marriage
license, but they wanted Rudy's Mom to sign a permission slip AND because I was a "foreigner" there was an additional 300 peso fee.
The next day we went back with Rudy's Mom and Dad and got our license.
Then the fun started......we went to the (only) judges office to set the date for our wedding and was told that the judge would be in Manila until March. THAT did not set well with Miss Rudy, so she (we) went to the Mayors office and she told them that she wanted Mr Mayor to marry us, which he agreed to do.
Well, I thought everything was finalized at that point.....I was wrong.
On Valentines Day the was a kiddie program here in our barrio. The guest speaker was our neighborhood Captain, which just happens to be Rudy's Aunt. After some conversation, "they" decided that since Rudy's Aunt and the Mayor are such close friends, and the wedding at the Mayors office was so much trouble for everybody attending, that the Mayor will be asked to come here to Rudy's parents home and marry us. So I think that is where it stands as of
    now.
As for me, I'm just sitting back and watching it all transpire and enjoying myself.
The marriage is on the 22nd of February at 10am in Aplaya. With only about 100 family members attending. Reception to follow.
    The invitations have been delivered.
The give-a-ways have had our name tags attached and wrapped.
The 5 pigs have been ordered.
    The food is being stockpiled.
And a lot of family members are doing everything.
I keep asking if I can do anything, and they keep telling me to go sit down and relax. Wedding preparations here belong to the women only I think.
As I said at the beginning, sorry to have been out of touch so long, but to be
honest, I've been very busy having the best time of my life.
And, I might add, moving here and getting married to Rudy Mae was the absolute smartest decision of my life.
I thank everyone here for all of your past help.
    Ron

On a scary note.....I bought a new Honda Wave 125cc and I have been driving it in traffic. Even after 45 years on a motorcycle, THIS is an "experience" like none other.
The scary part is that I am getting use to it and beginning to drive like they do.
    Life is good......

Ron, I know we are not invited (I guess ?) but congratulations.
Take a deep breath and enjoy enjoy enjoy.
Sit down and let them organize and the only thing YOU have to do is pulling your wallet (not meant to be a rude remark :D:D)
Take good care for her on your honeymoon.

Anyone who would like to come is welcome.
The way it stands at this very moment is that we are not sure if the wedding is going to be here in Aplaya or in Jasaan at the Mayors office because of his schedule, but we will know by Friday.
And you are right, I just sit back and watch and pay as needed. This is turning into a big deal here in our barrio.
I have been married twice before, but never a big family affair like it is here.
    This is really fun.

Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy! Glad to hear of a success story instead of a negative story for a change!

Not meaning to repeat myself but...... I'm sure now that there are many many success stories, but the people are too busy having fun to write about it.
To be honest, I would be also, except for the fact that Rudy is busy with preparations, I carry an iPhone which I am using to answer this now, and I'm really bored because the women won't let me do anything except sit and watch.
However, there is a sunset coming up very soon that I have to watch every evening.........

I'm happy to hear your about to marry into a large Filipino family that's excited to have a Kano as a new relative.

I can recall a similar situation a few years ago, when me and Daisy got joined together, in holy matrimony.

One thing I learned rather quickly, is that the family was so happy, and liked to celebrate so often, that nearly every day turned into a family feast at our apt.

I guess it is a good thing that I don't believe in omens, good or bad.
We got a text message from the Mayors office postponing our wedding until the 24th due to his trip to Manila running longer than expected.
Obviously, my Miss Rudy did not take the message well.
But, we have no choice but to make it the 24th and notify all of the people attending of the new date.
I told Rudy that maybe this was God's way of telling her we shouldn't get married. That turned out to be a VERY bad joke by me.
One of these days I gonna HAVE to teach her American humor.
So, we have an extra 2 days to prepare the food. And the pigs get to live another two days.
But for tonight, I don't think I'll try any more jokes with Rudy.
