I'm laying in bed the other night and I hear this strange noise. So I ask Rudy what it is and she says it's a lizard called a Tuko that lives in the neighborhood.
Ok, I'm from Texas and there are a lot of those cute little 2" long lizards there. I even had one living in my house.
So I get up yesterday morning and while I'm drinking my coffee I go to YouTube on my iPhone and search "Tuko".
d*mn people, that thing is the size of my forearm. The are aligators in Texas that size. That is NOT a cute little lizard. It looks like it could be down-right nasty if it got mad.
Where does it live? Nobody knows but it is very close to my bedroom window I think.
Of course, as they say in Texas "with a good bar-b-que sauce and cooked on the grill, I'll bet it taste just like chicken"
ok, so I'm still learning about phils.......

I had a Tuko run after me years ago, SOB was hissing at me when I was walking by it, I didn't see him at first, it was mad as hell for some reason. It ran at me several feet and tried to bite me. I wish I had a gun then, I would had shot it and have the maid cook him on the bar-b-que. They are are nasty critters, stay clear from them. I tell you one thing, If I had a Geico policy, I would have cancelled it real quick. HA ! HA ! HA !

he..he.he.he. thats very funny, welcome to the phils, you will still discover a lot of things. anyway, yes thats a big lizard and usually they live in the coconut tree. maybe your window is pretty close with any tree. stay away of the TUKO because once they bite you it won't let go like a crab.
congratulations on your wedding day and have fun!

My advice? Get a combination of spiders, tuko, cats and chameleons around your place to take care of the nasty mosquitoes (and of course west nile virus some may carry). The balance of the four around my place has a natural equilibrium of pest control and natural food chain lol.........but it seems to work oddly enough.

When I lived in Cebu we had one that lived in our bathroom. No not a geko but a Tuko about a foot long. He took up residence in a space about 2"or 3"wide between a hanging cabinet and the wall. We had a live and let live policy that seemed to work and gave me something to contemplate while sitting in there. All went well for a couple years I guess until a female relative knocked against the shelf and it fell. Pandemonium ensued. Yes he was noisy but it sort of blended in with the 100 or so fighting cocks the next door neighbor kept.
    Welcome to the Philippines.

Oh, I have gotten use to the 25 or so fighting cocks next door. This is why the noise of the Tuko woke me up.
I haven't yet seen the spider pictured above, but when I lived in Arizona we had Tarantulas everywhere, along with Scorpions, Black Widows and Rattlesnakes. So in time, I guess I'll get use to the Tuko, but I'm not going to try to be friends with him. He don't act real socialable.
Rudy and I sleep with our windows closed now (for me).

I couldn't agree more. They are much healthier to have around than pesticides!!
