Welcome!! We have not yet moved to Dumaguete, either, we are still in Manila, but only until about May. Valencia is lovely, it was our first choice of places to move, but we have found a nice place a little closer to town. We are building a small house in a gated and guarded subdivision in Candau-Ay, which will be ready in about 4-5 months (so they say). At any rate, we will be living in a townhouse right across the street from where they are building our house, so we can oversee construction, until it is ready. Good-Luck!! I am sure the folks here will be able to provide you some nice pics of your house.

Thank you very much for the warm welcome. We will practically be neighbors! We actually rented a house in Casa Alicia in Candau-ay when my wife was waiting for her visa - our first daughter was born then!! My wife's parent's still live in Casa Alicia, so maybe we will meet once we get there. Congratulations! You must be very excited for your new home to be finished...from my experience, I can tell you that the first part of the house goes very fast - then it slows down to a crawl. Ours has taken about 5 months so far, and they are just putting the final touches on now.

I must admit that I had to ask my wife about your post, and she quickly realized that you meant hobbies as opposed to husbands!!! I am sure your house is MUCH bigger than the one we are having built, thus is taking longer!! Ours is not much bigger than a bread box, so shouldn't take long at all.....but it will be ours, paid for in cash.....couldn't have that in the states!! I am looking forward to being able to actually choose colors, faucets and fixtures and some of the layout, my houses before were already built. Good luck, I know you are excited!! This group has some great get-togethers, I cannot wait to go to one of them and finally meet everyone!!

Hello there, just reading about you guys building houses in the philippines,
are you allowed to own the land and house if you are not a philipino ?
I am married to a thai lady but cannot own property in thailand ,is it the same

 

Yes, it's the same in the Philippines. Foreigners can't own the land.....although in theory the foreigner can own the house built on it...and it is possible to lease land on very long terms too (with extreme risk). You can own a condominium outright though, if the condo development is filipino-majority owned. Rental houses can be relatively cheap....or not so cheap.
If you start an authentic Thai restaurant anywhere on Negros...do be sure to tell us....
