⌛ American passport renewal

Hi:

Plan to retire to Dumaguete in Oct 2010. My passport is good until July 2012. Can I renew the american passport in Dumaguete by using a travel agency or gov. office or need to go to Manila? Also saw thread where older americans may be called a dirty white man if see with a younger female than himself. Is this the attitude of locals in Dumaguete or just a comment of one person. I will be in a similar boat. As far as I can tell the Embassy in Manila could to it. I would suggest calling them and see if that is the case.

 

you can use air21 an affiliate of fed ex send the passport and forms and it's delivered door to door. You can also do it thru the consulate in cebu 2-4 weeks or same day service in manila. If you a with a younger girl dont worry if anyone comments its just envy

 

I did what Dave said using Air21 door-to-door service even though I lived in Cebu City at the time and could've gone to the Consulate easily. It was a painless process...they deliver the forms one day, pick them up the next day along with your payment and then you get your new passport back in about a week. MUCH easier than renewing a Philippine passport, let me tell you!

Also, if you use the Consulate in Cebu, you have to go during the 2 hours per weekday (excepting their frequent closings) they are open, then wait in line, then have to return to pick it up. The door-to-door thing makes alot more since.

Weird looks for being a white guy with a younger woman?? I think you would get weirder looks if you are a white guy with a woman OLDER than you!...I'm not sure, I guess we could ask the TheDude...:D

Thanks for the info.. Do you have the address of Air21? Also, which city is best for an American retiree, Dumaguete , Cebu or Cagayan De Oro City. I guess Manila would be ok if you lived in the Makati area, any comments.

Passport Renewals

American Passport recommended that applicants send the renewal application regarding nine months before their travel paper expires.

 

Actually, on the "older men" thing, when my wife and I walk through any mall, it is normal to see numerous older foreigners with younger Philippine wives. And nobody looks twice at us (or them). It is just accepted as normal here.
I am 69 years old and my wife is 24.............pretty much a normal spread of ages.
I think the "dirty old men" joke is only between us.
Now I will admit that there is sometimes a problem when young girls in their 20's try to talk to me, or even just say hello, my wife gets very jealous. She may be petite, but she wont take that from other girls here.
Along with that, on the rare ocassions that I go somewhere by myself on my motorcycle, I am constantly waved at or stared at by young ladies.
It's really a fun life here........come and join us.

 

Tampafl, Makati overall is a magnitude more expensive than Dumaguete. Rent, particularly electric bills, helpers, I lived there for 3 years but my company was paying the bills, couldn't afford to stay once I decided to retire.

Don't worry about how you are perceived here with a young chick, fairly common and over the Philippines. If anyone says anything, it will be in the local language you don't have any idea what they are saying anyway. Just make sure she is of legal age, lol

 

I got my butt grabbed last week by a dirty old lady on the jeepney to Zamboanguita and she tried to act like it was an accident because I'm a young foiegner and she an old pilipina lady thus might be too dumb to know the game,or maybe all these dirty old men here have taught her their tricks on how to get a younger partner,Cant blame her then but I'm just not interested...being a young foreigner here is so rare its better to be an old one with a young partner-i get mobbed and attacked with intent to grope and i'm talking the ladies attacking me,I survive and its good hee so far..
