The Philippine consulate in Shanghai told me I could go to the Philippines with my USA passport and stay for 21 days.

    I want to stay longer.

I'd asked the consulate how I should go about getting the 6 month visa.
Their reply was to get the 21 day visa.

What do you think? Could I get the six month visa in Dumaguete after I arrive? I'm not ready to get the retirement visa....yet.

    Thanks for information or suggestions.

At Dumaguete Immigration they will extend your 21 day entry to a total of 59 days. After that you renew your visa every 2 months. To stay past 59 days you will need to get an ACR card, a bit of a hassle and expensive. The ACR is a new requirement and if you look at this forum you will see that it has caused some confusion. It seems that the Dumaguete office has that straightened out now.

A point that should be made, do not confuse a 6 month or 1 year multiple entry visa as one that will allow you to stay for 6 months or a year. A 6 month or 1 year multiple entry visa is still only good for 59 days at a stretch, then you must renew.
