Ok, ok... so diving is never cheap  I meant cheaper.

I try to ask resorts for a local rate, but I haven't had luck. I'm new to Dumaguete (3 months), and I would like to invite my friends to dive as well, but i'd like to go visit the sites first.

I have my own gear (just need tanks/weights), AOW license with Rescue training, preferably with a group (share boat expenses and meet new buddies).

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

Cheaper...?? ......then make beach dives !
It will only () cost you the rent of a tank + weight (possible from 120 till 150 pesos), the fee for diving in a sanctuary (in Dauin area: 150 pesos, if without a camera) and your transport cost to that beach area.
There are enough interesting sites in the Dauin area which you can visit all from the beach and easily to remember for the next time.
Of all my dives here in the area between San Miguel and Siaton (incl. Apo Island) I think more than 80% is made in Dauin: all beach dives !!
But if you need a boat ...... then you need much likely more then only a (good) boat (also a good captain and a good experienced guide)
Once you know all the places ....... you won't even need that guide.
Many dives have been spoiled ,even ruined, because of a NOT good guide.
So if you still have to learn the places here ...... dive with a good guide/dive shop and decide later.
So maybe once your friends can be brought to those places by yourself.
But from my 'little' experience (diving 32 years) that will take quite some time and even then in the beginning quite some disappointments.
I am NOT talking about the dives you make from the beach in the sanctuaries or some other known places around here.
Even dive shops brought me to 'wrong' sites (sorry...I have to say: even some 'dive guides' brought me.....).
It's all about experience  .....and......a little effort to find some buddies.

lol @ jellyfish... your little experience makes mine next to none!

I can try to do beach dives, but I'd be really scared. How is it done, like instructions such as swim east at 80ft etc? Where do I start? Where do i rent the tank + weights?

I will definitely get in touch with Glenn.

Thank you, thank you everyone. I'm glad I joined the forum

Slacker most beach dives are just that, jump in and dive. But for safety, if you can at least have someone on the beach around that knows you are diving just in case. It is better to not to dive alone no matter what your experience.
