⌛ Banks

Banks in Dgte. operates just fine, and pretty much they're all n computers. Yes, they do charge fees, but it's nothing compared to the US. Ur talking about CitiBank,BOA, Chase and some other big financial institutions. Men.. they're fees are rediculous. I heard from the source. They are there to make profit, otherwise they won't be banks. That's why we have Credit Unions in the state because they charge less and the service is good. Finding a financial institution that will fit ur lifestyle won't be hard. There's lot of them BDO, BPI,PNB..Veterans Bank..etc. Me and my husband don't any problem getting money from the state while we are in Dgte.

Common guys, this lady asked 2 simple questions and had to be given the third degree here. This is not what we are all about here, giving friendly information here is our main goal. She has kids, of course she is worried and concerned and if your a parent then I would hope that you are concerned too. Here is my 2 pesos worth of advice here. Private schools in the Philippines are usually good, but like any other school you must come here personally and ask the locals the reputation of the school. If I were you, I would also hire a tutor so that your kids can adjust better and get one on one help. I don't think it would cost an arm an a leg like it would in the States to have a private tutor. If you open a bank account in the Philippines, get a dollar account so that they can't screw with your money too much. I heard there is a Citibank in Manila, but I think you might have to open it up with a $10,000 deposit. I could be wrong about this. If you have a US bank account and your ATM card gets lost,stolen or machine eats it up, then your screwed. Some US banks will not send a replacement card overseas and if they do, it will take too much time to get it. If you have direct deposit then get an account at PNB,BPI or China Bank, the nice thing about China Bank is that they have banks in the USA and the Philippines. Bank fees are a nasty thing that nobody can avoid. The good thing about PNB and BPI is that they are all over the place and if you run into a problem, then you can simply walk into the bank and deal with it personally. Dealing with US banks on the telephone overseas to solve a problem can be real hell. Take care and have a good trip.

 

I live and have grown up in the US public school system. I would not agree with other statements saying the US school system is of poor standard. The problem with kids in the US is poor parenting. They just seem to let them do whatever they want back talk yell at them whatever. So I wouldn't really put the blame fully on the schools when you have kids that don't have any respect for anybody but them selves. Now not all kids are like this their are some good parents out there that raise good kids and these kids seem to do very well in school and tend to be successful in life. I just think that the parents of all the bad apples needs to wake up and actually get involved in their kids lives.

 

I know that Filipino pride wants you to say that schools in the PI are better than anywhere but there is the reality also. My asawa ko is the product of a Dumaguete education up to two years of college at Foundation and after 10 years in the US her English still is not correct and I blame that on learning English from teachers who do not know what they are teaching. I would be in Dumaguete now because I really appreciate the traditions, the care for friends, family and neighbors but because my children are in elementry school and after being in Dumaguete and experiencing the education of our cousins and friends I just do not have the heart to put my children through the struggle it would be for them to get up to speed on Tagolog or Visyan because no matter how much you believe the class will be taught completely in English, for the reasons mentioned in the above posts, believe me that is not the case.

This is my feelings based on what I have observed and experienced. I feel that having as much information as possible is the best thing to make an informed choice. If I was able to start my children in school in the PI from that very beginning I would have done that but because that was not possible I do not believe it is a good thing to disrupt their education if it is not necessary. I would still get them to attend university in the PI if they wanted to, but we are not at that point yet and I want to make sure they have a decent foundation before subjecting them to such a radical change in lifestyle.

Its re assessment in the philippine education that is needed and also the quality of teaching and overpopulation of students in school lead to deterioration of quality students. Problem such as these are ever rising. Also the quality of teachers are also deteriorating. Education department are aware of this problem in a national level but i think they are just sitting down and not even alarmed or concerned by these problems. For me this is very irresponsible action especially the government in general. No proper agenda and planning to nurture the future of this country. I am very disappointed not to you people here but to the government.

 

Yes, of course. I went through the school system in the U.S. and I was only able to spell and string together sentences so they make sense after taking remedial classes in Dumaguete.

Are you moving for good in dumaguete? We are planning to move there too and my husband is very excited. There are lots of banks there, and your situation is the same as ours. My husband made a lot of research of whats the best thing to do. Regarding schools, there are lot of chirstian school in dumaguete. I know there are lots of comments here that the schools are not good because this and that. But you know its up to you, there is a christian school in Bacong, there is also in Duma which is Alfa & Omega, Living Word, Silliman is also good, St Paul which is a catholic school, Faoundation University and more. I have 2 kids too 5 & 3. Well good luck for everything hope all is well.

I just wish derivative_guru that you dont have kids in the Phillipines, if there is, send your child to the place you come from. A lot of people here are complaining of everything in the phils, my question is, why are you there?
