there is no direct connection to Palawan from Dumaguete.

With Hotel it depends, Palawan is about 450 km in length, so it is a bit hard to answer

If you want to go to Coron, I think Seair operates form Cebu to Busuanga. You will have to check. Otherwise, you will have to go from Manila. Two good dive resorts are SeaDive and Discovery Divers. (I was the first Instructor there in early nineties) I know Seadive offers accommodation, I would expect Discovery Divers can as well.

If you want to go to Puerto Princessa, CebuPac and Seair (i am pretty sure) fly from Cebu as well. Google for accommodation.

As far as I know, no ferries from Visayas, lots of fishing boats though.

A regular roundtrip with Cebu Pacific between Cebu and Puerto Princesa will cost you 6,840 pesos.
So perhaps you can plan ahead and look for promotionfares.

Travelled Palawan extensively...great place! Easiest way...fly to P. P. stay at OneRovers for p1000/nght or across the street...forget the name but you can't miss it! Begins with a B if that helps. LOL Great place for p800/ngt...If you're looking for a really relaxing place with great "cheap" resorts right on the beach...go to Port Barton...ask for Mharj...Summer House! You won't be disappointed. From P. Barton take banca to El Nido...5 hrs approx p2500 or cheaper...just ask around.
Now...if you want a really amazing sailing experience...when you get to P. Princesa go to Kenabuch's and ask for Jim Ellis...canadian guy with a great sail boat...www.sail-remington.com (moderator, hope that's okay...he's a great guy!) Just email him and negotiate a deal...he's a great guy with a great boat! Sail you all over Palawan...wrecks the works.!!!! I love Palawan! Have lot's of other info if you want email me directly. Cheers, Jim...P.S. Go Canadiens Go!!!! This years Stanley Cup Champs for sure!!!!

How about Busuanga and Coron? I heard it is really nice too. Would You recommend that as a side excursion when going to Palawan?

If you are a diver, absolutely, if not it is nice but nothing you realy cannot see on The big Island. Check Out El Nido, it is worth the trip up ..

I think it's too far as a "side excursion". (A day by boat from El Nido) Unless you fly into Coron and head south from there to El Nido. Most people go to Coron for one reason...diving the wrecks. If you're not a diver may not be worth the effort.
Busuanga as an island is not bad but really there is not much there but Coron Town itself. In Coron you can go to Seadivers and go diving the wrecks in the area. Just google Sea Divers to get their rates. In the immediate area there are a couple of good water falls...rent a bike and check them out. There are also hot springs just outside of town that are pretty good and cheap p20. Across the bay there are some good beaches for snorkelling and you can trek to the fresh water lakes...they are pretty cool. Boats at the main pier take you there.
Coron itself is not spectacular...no actual beaches etc. Just a jump off point to see the wrecks. Basically when in Coron I do recommend the Bistro for dining...Great food and priced right...everything from French food to pasta and pizza...really great food! Hell Divers bar...owned by Seadivers which is right next door, is pretty good and tends to where everyone hangs out. Good restaurant at end of same pier. Depending on how much time you have and your budget, most people fly into P.Princesa, take a jeepney to Port Barton or straight up to El Nido...spend a few days in El Nido then take a banca to Coron. Spend 3 days in Coron to dive and then fly out of there back to Manila or wherever. Others start in Coron and head the other way. If you don't dive then I recommend, P. Princesa then Port Barton and while there check out the water falls and go to Sabang and the underground river. Then take a banca to El Nido. If time and budget permit then head to Coron.
Anther great place is Roxas and Coco Loco Island...great place to chill out and very well priced! Highly recommend it, however it is on the east side of Palawan, just up the coast from P. Princesa. If time and budget are a concern then do the Coco Loco Island thing. Lot's of islands in the area for hopping, snorkelling and diving. Again the price is great too.
Hope this helps and any other questions feel free to ask.
    Cheers,
    Jim
