The usual fare if it is just within the city is Php 7. However, some drivers like to pick up foreigners because they give a little extra to them.Some foreigners have spoiled these drivers when, from the airport they'd give them from a hundred pesos and more. That is why they like to have foreigners as passengers.

 

I give them at least p10 in town, p20 if I'm going out by St Pauls alone like I did when I went to NSO the other day. Counting pisos and agonizing over small change isn't worth the effort on my part. If my wife and I are going to Ceres from the blvd I give the driver p20.

If that's spoiling someone who makes p200-400 a day after paying his rental I guess I'm guilty. Better than handing some beggar money who's doing nothing at all.

It's not VIP service unless you demand no one else ride with you. Claiming "this is a special trip" is illegal. I've seen many drivers turn down extra riders as we went along when they could have easily accomodated them to where they wanted to go after dropping me off or vv.

On the other hand the drivers are supposed to take you where you want to go and not have the option to turn you down. When they decline or claim they're waiting for someone inside Unitop etc I get my cellphone out and take a pic of their trike number. That usually has them singing a different tune.

Report them to Traffic Enforcement.

 

I was really impressed with the trikes in Dumaguete.

They are actually large enough for the average pot bellied ex-pat to fit into, lady in tow, in relative comfort.

The trikes in Manila, and Angeles City, are so cramped, I always dread riding in one.


I'm normally not one to quibble over a few pesos. And, I figured, after reading this thread, that a trike ride for me and my wife, would cost 14 pesos, and if no one else was picked up, I figured 20-30 pesos would be a fair payment. (The same ride costs us 30-40 pesos, after negotiations, here in Manila)

But, each time I offered 20 pesos, we got 13 pesos change. I just took back 10 pesos, and the drivers seemed pretty happy about the 3 pesos tip.

That's only 7 pesos for hauling both me, and my wife, with no other passengers.

We get a trike to Public Market from Banilad for 8 pesos; return trip from Mercury Drug (waiting until the trike fills - usually six-seven people) costs 9 pesos. Seems to me the last few months it is now 8 pesos versus 7 pesos (wow, ridiculous increase, eh?). I have done a daytime "special" (I'm the only passenger) trip from downtown to Banilad for an average of 40-50 pesos, and a late-night, "special" trip can cost up to P100. While I'm happy to save money like anyone else, the idea of spending about $2.00 USD for a safe ride home at 2:00am is not certainly something at which I am going to balk.

I never cease to be amazed at the comments posted here periodically about getting "ripped off" by trike drivers for P25 -- these men are supporting their family by driving around for hours and hours, most of the time with ungrateful customers. To be honest, a number of drivers to whom I have spoken have commented that "foreigners" tend to treat them poorly and with disrespect -- honestly, how might you react to that? Treat people well, and you will reap the benefits.

An earlier post noted that it's a good idea to make friends with and appreciate our drivers. I will add to that comment by reminding folks that we, without transportation at 2:00am, need a trike driver much more than they need our P100, end-of-the-night fare (for door-to-door service) when they just want to go home after a long day... Just something to think about???

Rick&Sue, many times have staggered out of "why not" bar late at night, no problems giving 100 peso to trike driver for the trip to sac sac Bacong, but when they ask for 300 pesos I tell them very politely NO.

 

When standing on the side of the Highway in Banilad, whenever possible I will usually try to Flag down an Easy Ride/Multi-Cab, with Trikes being My second choice. Last time I checked { July 2009 } the Fare was 10 Pesos and the Final Resting place/Make shift Depot would be just East of Quezon Park on Colon Street. With all the road construction taking place I found that an Easy Ride was much Smoother than the Whiplash You Expierience on a trike, not to mention a little less Dust in the face. Things may have changed since last July { I'm Hoping } and with any luck the Construction will be near completion by the time I arrive next Month. The Fares may have gone up a bit by now, but I think I can still get away with 15-20 Pesos {tip included}......Cheers...

 

Note skilled laborers get 170 per day 220 with their own tools 40 at day thats ok to your your place 50-70 at night is acceptable even 100 at the most at 2am I pay 50 at night to private garden in mangnao and they are satisfied as another poster mentioned asking 300 is totally absurd for 300 at night you can take a friggin taxi clear across cebu city.when foreigners start paying 300 at night to Banilad then the price will soon rise to 500p. A fair deal is a fair deal but 300 for a 10-15 minute ride please c'mon now I would come downtown to pick-up and drive someone to Banilad for that myself

There are two types of rates. Fixed rates and market rates. If I ride from National Book store to MacDonalds at mid day, for example, both the driver and I expect the fare will be P 7. (Unless he thinks I'm a newbie then it's P 10 or whatever).

 

i hate when i tell the trike driver i give him 30 pesos to take me and my gf frm robinson 2 provencial then he gets 2 other people also with us and they go farther and i assume they only pay 16...grrrrrrr! shoulda told him pacquio ride!
