I left snorkle gear with my friend in Dauin and on my last trip found that we all had to pay when swimming in district 2 or behind the local dive resorts. Is that fair to the residents? Who owns the ocean there? A snorkler should be free as he can see underwater and can warn if anything is amiss, no?

If you used their beach and facilities for access then they are in business for money and a charge should be expected.

If you are snorkeling in one of the marine sanctuaries it will cost you 50 peso. And yes this is a fair fee. The marine sanctuaries are well maintained, no boat traffic or fishing in there. Without the communities watching and maintaining it you won't find much to explore.

If you just wanna go swimming or splashing in the water you can go out side the sanctuaries and don't need to pay anything.

    What's fair?

Temperature was upper 90s or lower 100s. I can afford 50 pesos or the 56 pesos or so that the dive resorts are charging. The point is that while I have very desirable weather here in alaska, my friend has to pay the 50 pesos just to snorkel. Heaven forbid! If you take a camera with you, it's even more. That's no way to treat residents there if they have to escape the heat, is it? Humans are biological organisms that live temporarily and then die. Why act like we "own" the ocean? Let the city of Dauin pay out of the taxes they have or don't take on projects that let locals suffer by keeping them out of the cool water. I've been a certified diver for longer than most of you were born, and never once did I try to claim even 1 drop of the ocean as "mine". Anyhow, enjoy the ocean. Pay your 50 pesos and never let the "other guys" misfortune bother you. I guess you're the center of the universe. Enough said. Sorry, I still can think.

what a crap, I explained it pretty clear that your friend can go into the water and snorkel whenever he wants. If he wants to take the option to snorkel in an area which is taken care of an which is protected he pays...

If he is to lazy to walk 50 meter to be outside a sanctuary (where for sure he does nothing for the maintenance) he need to pay the effort others put in into that.

It is not true to pay more if you take a camera with you when snorkeling. So please do not spread wrong statement around.

I am a diver for many years and I did dive at the sanctuary's hundreds of times and I dont complain to pay for that and it is triple more as the SML price.
I am happy because they protect the most beautifull divesites and for that I have no problem to pay for that.
Sometimes I dont understand long noses they always talk about money and what property they have and on the other hand they complain about a SML price when they can snorkel in a protected area.

    Greeting J.Diver
