Greetings to all and a big "thank you" for the great information on the Dumaguete living.

I am Greek, 59, recently relocated and married with a wonderful Filipina lady.

At the moment, we live in QC and search around for a place to settle for good.
Greece is over for me, next April an early retiring and back to PR..

Ex cars mechanic and spare parts specialist. Next week, we plan a 3 days visit to Dumaguete for a personal view and decisions to be made..

I hope to meet friends from the forum for a coffee or beer.

Greetings, welcome to the forum. So Greece is not good for retirement? The reason I ask is about 15 years ago I spent a few nights on the island of Hydra and it literally only cost me a few dollars to stay in someone's vacant home while I was there. Of course that was a long time ago but I always imagined the Greek islands would be the cheapest and loveliest places to retire to. I was only passing through, don't speak Greek, and maybe I was lucky, so what is the real story?

Let us know what you think of Dumaguete or any place else you are venturing off to.

Hope you find the place your looking for and will be happy the rest of your retirement.
Europe is going through a bad time right now, so like yourself I am considering a move to PI

    Dear Pedro,

15 years ago our society just got the "cancer" of consuming and "show off".
Elected politicians lost any dignity, corruption widespread and on the top of the cake, the last five years our local "golden boys" fell ..in love with the Goldman Sachs nice guys !! That was the final stroke and now workers and young people will pay the price..! The dream is over, see you later alligator..

Our islands are still wonderful and a couple can live comfortably with 1,500 US$..! (2 bedrooms rent, food, transport, etc.). 100% up within 10 years..

About me, as no more relatives alive or kids, I decided at the end 2008 to find a place in S.E.Asia running around Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.

Finally, the winner was PR, because of an unexpected love and the use of English..

I wish I could live in Laos (my number 1, especially Luang Prabang)
with Cambodia second. Well, it didn't happened.. life goes on...
