My name is Steve I live in London and I am just beginning the process which will hopefully see me retiring to Dumaquete in the next 12 months. Why Dumaquete?

Well my fiance used to live in Mindanao near Zamboanga City but the violence has escalated to a level where it was not safe for her to be there any longer so I packed her off to her grandmothers house in Dumaguete just yesterday.

I will arrive for my first visit on 28th August (been to Cebu and Boracay before though) for a holiday.

I expect I will be drawing on your considerable experience and knowledge in the future as I plan my retirement :-)

    Welcome to the forum, steve1960.

Glad you give a safer place for your woman. But how about her family? Leaving them unsafe there? Hmmm, remember that when you 'marry' a Pinay you are actually marrying the whole family? (joke only, please do not get a heart attack.)

There is enough useful info here in the forum. When you need to go out and about dining, most of Rhoody's post and photos are very helpful. And more to explore in the forum and in Dumaguete, too!

    Dayon!

    Trust me I know!

It's OK me and Cathy have been together for a while and I know the culture! Yes I am marrying the family of course.

The problem is Cthy's dad is a local Mindanao guy, his job is there, and right now he doesn't want to move :(

I will of course keep encouraging them to join Cathy and we will see what happens.

Thank you very much for the information, much appreciated.

    You are welcome, steve1960.

Keeping our children safe even before ours (as parents) is an ultimate peace of mind, you know?

I believe that taking Cathy to a safer Dumaguete where she got families too, is also a relief for her parents.

Oh yes for sure. I have a 19 year old daughter and put her safety before mine every time.

Cathy's parents are very happy she is safe. There are a lot of bad things happening to young girls in Mindanao right now :(

Welcome to the forum Steve, very nice place Dumaguete, you will be fine and your wife there. I'm planning to retire to Dumaguete too, albeit 4 or 5 years from now.

I have lived here for a many years with my wife and children and it's a good place to retire, In fact I just had a few beers with the chef of police. What fun! Sorry I'm a little drunk. Do you like it? Haa Haa
