    Hi All,

I have a 2002 Ford Lynx and the automatic tranmission just went out. I have friends sorcing the re-build kit in cebu.

I have a good mechanic, but his shop has a dirt floor, When working on an automatic transmission the area must be very clean. So I would appreciate any suggestions if you know a trusted experienced mechaic with a clean shop.

    Thanks in advance.
    Ron

Hi Ron , be sure that the gearbox needs a rebuild , I had a Ford Focus (Euro version of your Ford ) deppending how old the car is there are 2 versions of gearboxes ,one stil has a dipstick to see the level of the automatic ATF the other one we call a sealed system has no dipstick. Most of the time draining the oil , taking the oil sump of the gearbox off and cleaning the filter will solve the problem (as long as you did not drive it with a low oil level . ) Most of the time the hydraulic valves are stuck and it can be fixed easy . If it works better or good after you do the above, change the oil again after 200 miles to get all the dirt out .

Thanks Chris, It is the dipstick type and the oil level was correct. I know a bit about cars but not automatic transmissions. I sent it to my mechanic to change the oil and clean the strainer. I still have the prorblem. As soon as I start out it immediatly shifts into 3rd gear I think. Even if I manually put the shifter in first gear. Then there is no power and a smell of burning fluid starts.
Doesn't have a feeling that it is slipping.

If you know any more I would appreciate it.

    My 2 cents.....

Does the CEL (Check Engine Light) come on at all? If it does or is on the transmission will throw off a code to the cars computer telling a mechanic with a code reader where to start looking. Code reader in the Philippines? Not likely! How many miles/kilometers on the odometer? Torque converter and/or solenoid failure leading to clutch pack failure is common on high mileage cars.
Burnt fluid means something is slipping. Make sure the transmission cooler and it's lines are flushed of debris when the trans is finally repaired. Using the correct trans fluid is critical also.

    Tks Knowdafish,

The cel light didn't come on and it has around 86,000kms. I know years ago ford and GM cars took different fluid. Is that still the same? I will check with my mechanic to see what he put in and check the owners manual tomorrow. He is a former head mechanic for Mitsubishi.
I think the Ford dealer in cebu is a full service shop, but I would have to trailer it there and They are very expensive like most dealers.
