Is that the same as an Opthalmologist? Sorry, I am a Filipino and my English is limited.

If it is an Opthalmologist, you may want to try the Silliman University Medical Center.

    Ophthalmologist

    Hi Patty,
I asked the same question a few weeks ago.....we took our daughter to ACES, next door to Lee Hypermart. I was very impressed with the office and staff. The Dr. who saw my daughter was very nice and knowledgeable. I will be going there for my vision needs very soon. The only thing I didn't like was my daughter is needing new contacts, right now.....and they have to order them from Cebu, takes a week. I asked for the Rx so I could go get some at the optical shop in the mall and they wouldn't give me the Rx (crooks!!), have to order the contacts through them. So, we are buying the first pair from them, but hopefully will have the bottles so we can replace them easily at the shop in the mall if necessary (we ARE talking about an 11 year old, who loses/tears them occasionally). Luckily, our daughter hasn't had any mishaps in a long time!!

Hi Patty. It's much simpler than you might think. In the absence of any personal preference or recommendation, simply walk into any of the local hospitals and prowl the halls. Take your pick.

Unlike North America or elsewhere, a referral is not needed. Get your "priority number" and wait your turn.

Beware of optometrists. They are in the business of selling eyewear, not optical health. FYI, a prescription is yours. It is your property, to be filled when and where you choose.

That's why your idea of a an examination by an ophthalmologist is a sound one. My wife's examination confirmed that the expensive glasses suggested by a localoptometrist were entirely un-necessary for her.

    Contact lenses....

Are contact lenses cheaper in the mall?
Where do you think they get the lenses from?
If ACE did the testing and gave you good service, isn't it sneaky to buy from another place?
How do you think and feel?

    Prescription

No, I absolutely don't think it is sneaky....I paid for the eye exam, and just like in the states, I am entitled to fill my prescription (whether medicine, contacts, or glasses) anywhere I choose. Not sure where you have lived, but I always had the freedom to choose where to fill my prescriptions. Yes, they charge double than the stores in the mall do to buy them there. I had planned to buy her contacts there all along, because most offices have them onsite, but they don't. My daughter is really struggling to see at school, so it was somewhat urgent, and it was going to be another week to get them (been longer than that now), but they wouldn't give me the Rx to get filled elsewhere. So, now you know how I think and feel. A prescription is the property of the person who paid to receive that prescription....If you went to the doctor for an ailment and needed antibiotics to get well, and, although you already paid him for his services, wouldn't it seem wrong for that doctor to tell you that you HAD to buy the medicine from him or else he wasn't going to tell you what you needed?? And, especially if you knew the pharmacy next door had the medicine you needed, but the doctor's office wouldn't have the medicine for a week or longer??
Anyway, right now, my daughter is still having terrible headaches and STILL cannot see in class, because they refused to give me the prescription I paid for. In the end, she is the one who is suffering, and that isn't right!! I even explained to them her situation, but they wouldn't budge. Sad that the all mighty dollar is still the bottom line.

I do feel sorry for your daughter....my question is, why didn't you go to the mall from the beginning. If problems continue I recommend Dr.Regalado at Sillimans Medical Center. He is an EENT..... GOOD LUCK!

    My answer is this:

We have severe eye issues in our families that must be monitored by ophthalmologists. Glaucoma, severe myopia, severe astigmatism, macular degeneration, and I recently, in my 40's required surgery for bilateral strabismus. These are all conditions that need close monitoring. I might be wrong, but the offices in the malls usually only have optometrists on staff. BUT, if I had known beforehand that the ophthalmologists office has to order contacts, I may have gone ahead and done the mall thing, then followed up later for a more in depth eye exam with the ophthalmologist. As far as the EENT doctor (Ears, Eyes, Nose, and Throat), I much prefer to go to a board certified ophthalmologist, who only treats eyes. I am not sure if Dr. Regalado is an opthalmologist or a multi-specialty physician, but I will stick with one who only treats eyes, but thanks for the suggestion!!

I wish you good luck and I do understand your problems. Also, for your info contact lenses are not a stock product. There are some temp. lenses you can use until you get the ones ordered from the manufactor or the companies representing them.

    Good Luck and Take Care.
