I will side with your neighbor on this one...

Outside of Makati Med, St. Luke's, Asian Hospital, etc. there are virtually no medical facilities in the Philippines that come even close to Western standards. Even the aforementioned aren't to the standards you will find in the majority of American hospitals. If medical care is a real concern, you should rethink coming to the Philippines. I hate to say it, but that is the reality of the situation.

You may find some apologists on this forum who will say that I and others on this forum are elitist Westerners for saying that the medical care and educational standards here are not up to global standards. But, all you have to do is look at where the Filipino elite go when they need medical care:
Fmr. First Gentleman Mike Arroyo, Fmr Cebu City Mayor Tommy Osmena, Imelda Marcos and many others...when their life is on the line, they go to the US for medical treatment.

:( You know something, A long time ago I was talking to a Guy from the US ( I am English ) he said if you have lived to be 55 you have made it. I am 62 now and I will continue to make it. The PI is not the best place to be if you have recurrent health problems ( Unless you have Plenty of $ ) life is for Living, come on BR join the club and live you life away

I made a long post in reply, but the site time me out and lost it.

I am going on 58 in a few months and am in above average health. No major problems as yet and no high blood either.

I think our plan is to do a few months in the Philippines and return home to see our children and grand children. Take care of any medical issues that might come up and enjoy life.

I was on my soap box for a while about the over all conditions in the Philippines. How it needs to change and the people have to stand up as one to make it happen. If the Pinoys continue to take a few pesos for their votes, nothing will ever change or get better. SOS -DD as they say.

I can not remember the entire ramblings I was talking about, but it was along the lines of the people of the Philippines coming together in another "People Power" and taking control and letting their voices heard to get the Philippines into this century with regards to education and medical needs. Seen these problems for over 34 years and it is not getting any better, in fact I think it is getting worse.

Well off to work in the yard as I just had a new fence put in.

    Jack

Well I made it to 57 and 58 in a few months. I think at times my body gives me signs that it is time to stop working and enjoy the time I have left. I think the income I get monthly from my navy Retirement and my VA Disabilities, i can have a good life in PI. Then in a few years my social security will kick in. Think the money aspect is set.

Just need to get the ball rolling as long as the relationship between me and the better half does not go to pot. 35 years is a long time to throw away. but then again, I can always be 20 again in the PI. LOL:smile:

    You missed something.

And send their children to american schools, lets not leave that one out either.

So BR is it in your new location that your acquaintance is selling his rental properties or is it in Makati? If it is the former at least he is giving you straight advice.

My Filipino neighbor has sold the house next to me here in the Bremerton area. He has about four other properties he needs to sell. His tax lawyer told him that he should not sell them all in one year as it will kill him on taxes. So he is working on the next one to be sold hopefully early next year.

He has a condo in Makati in Rockwell I think he said. Not sure if Rockwell is in Makati or not. Last year I spent some time researching condos in the Manila area but found them to be too much. Now if i was to sell my home here, pay off a few bills. I could use that profit to either build our home in Calbayog City if we have not done so in the next 18 months or so OR maybe look into a condo in the Manila area. It all depends on what happens between me and the better half.

Am I missing something here in regards to the Boulevard Brigade? Breakfast at McDonald's?

I will take a shot in that some expats hang out some where trying to pick up the girls.

Well, those days are done and gone. If I ever become single in the future, looking is all I will do as I will not have the time to create another relationship.

I would travel around the Philippines and see the places that interest me. I know of a few Americans and a few Brits that are doing just that now. It seems like a good way to relax and take in the sights. I met them over four years ago in Thailand. They are now living in the Philippines or back in England waiting for their new Filipina wife to travel home.

There is another American who I talk to that retired from the Navy also. In lives in Palo, Leyte with his wife. There is many Americans that have retired or set up a place to live in the Olongapo City or Angeles City areas. For me, I think that if I was going to do just that, I prefer the Subic Bay area as it is close to the beaches.

I am guessing Jack you live in the area. Are you renting or did you build?

I don't see many pics on here from members. Am I missing something?

Take care Jack and enjoy the weekend coming up.

I got a little too much sun working in the yard and helping complete a new fence. It will be fun trying to sleep tonight and then going to work.
