220V to 110V, ok, what about 110V to 220V

    Of course, a transformer will convert 220V to 110V, but is there a device that will convert 110V to 220V so that appliances and other electronic devices that use 220V can be used in areas where 110V is the normal voltage?

    Yes there is also a transformer that goes from 110v to 220v.

    I shipped a 120/110 volt generator over but it only gives 1000 watts and about 8 amps and my generator repair/sales man says that one will not be any use to convert to 220 volt when you use philippines appliances because its a low amperage source to start with and though the voltage converts,the amperage and wattage are greatly reduced so will it work with higher amperage converter? he told me not to count on it and that it is not effective-there are 220/240 volt outlets in american houses where 120/110 volts are the norm,of course the 220/240 outlets are in the kitchen and utility rooms to power high amperage large appliances,220 is best for high amperage delivery and 120 handles the lower amperages better,so the step up conversion to 220 breaks the amperage down from what was already low...One clue is that its hard to find the step up converters,..Another clue is the inteface for 120 and 220 are different with 220 having larger connecters for larger amp loads and viceaversa..they are made to not interface for safety and inefficiency reasons..Look for other advise too.

    E=Voltage
    I=Current (amperage)
    R=Resistance (measured in ohms)

    E=IxR

    Watts=Voltage x Current (IxE)

    Volt-amperes(VA)= Voltage x Current divided by P (power factor)

    Step down x-former (220 to 110) is simple and efficient

    Step up x-former (110 to 220) is not so simple and very inefficent

    Bad power factor (P) will cause your florescent lights to not come on even if the voltage it correct.
    Yes, there is such a thing as bad electricity

    :eek: "M" you are so right, After 3 brownouts last night, I have just got Power now after 4 hours, I am not sure even Noreco2 understand about electricity, I seem to Buy This bad electricity all the time.:D
